Beth Jone was only eight years old when she first tried playing the piano. 

That was a cold Sunday morning. It was snowing （heavy）. She went to a music club during the lunchtime. Of all the musical instruments，the piano was （interesting） to Beth. She thought the black﹣and﹣white keys were cool，and she wanted to hit  （they），to see what they sounded like. 

Now Beth is thirteen and gives concerts around the country. She also has her own YouTube channel and  （get） over a million hits a year. What's amazing is that Beth hasn't ever been to piano lesson. She learns everything on the Internet. 

Giving concerts wasn't easy for Beth at the beginning because usually she only played the piano alone in her bedroom when she came home  school. At her first concert，she played in a band with many older  （child）. She could feel hundreds of pairs of eyes looking at her，  she wasn't afraid. 

So，does Beth enjoy （be） famous now？"I didn't plan to be famous，"she says. "All I want is to show others what. I love. I don't think I'm someone special. I just want everyone （have）a great time at my concerts. "

My grandfather had a small farm. He also worked in a factory. 

One autumn，he promised to help his neighbor harvest（收获） his corn. But after harvesting his own corn，Grandpa's little machine didn't work. At the same time，the factory where Grandpa worked began to require overtime（加班）. He had to leave the farm early in the morning and didn't get home until after sunset. It now seemed impossible to help out his neighbor. 

One night，Grandpa decided that he wouldn't let his neighbor's harvest rot（腐烂）in the field. Without a machine，he would harvest it by hand. 

"When do you think you'll have time to do it？"asked my grandma. "Besides，it'd be too dark. ""There's still one more full moon in October. If the weather is clear，I think I can do it，"he said. 

And so a few days later，after lots of busy work at the factory，my grandpa made his way to the field. The weather was cold but clear，and the full moon was glowing（发光）. He worked through the night to keep his word（遵守诺言）. 

Sometimes，when I want to put off responsibilities（责任），I'd see my grandfather cutting corn in the light of the harvest moon. 

It was a cloudy afternoon. I was walking in the park near 1 neighborhood. The wind was blowing hard and I knew it was going to rain. But I didn't want to go home. I had a terrible argument（吵架）with my 2 and ran out of the house just 10 minutes ago. 

I sat down near a lake. There were many children playing with their 3 nearby. The parents ran after the children and laughed loudly，but I felt a little 4 . 

"Shall we play together？"A little girl came 5 me with a ball in her hands. I agreed and she handed me the ball with a sweet smile. 

6 it began to rain，all the children at the lakeside went home with their parents. "Where are your parents？ "I asked the girl. 

"My mom is 7 candied fruit（蜜饯） outside the park. She couldn't look after me，"the girl answered. "I usually play alone here. It's OK if you need to go home now. I am 8 enough to stay here and wait for my mom. "

"But it's raining，"I said. "You'd better not be here alone when it's dark. "

"It's no problem. Mom won't leave me alone. She is coming soon，"the girl said. "She is my mom，even if she 9 cares for her daughter. "

A 5﹣year﹣old girl taught me to 10 and believe in my mom. Should I listen to her and say sorry to my mom？

In the end，I took the little girl to her mom's vending cart（售货摊） and then11 home quickly. 

Opening the door，my mom was close to tears（眼泪）："Where have you been？I12 you everywhere!It's raining outside. See how 13 your coat is!Don't come to my room even if you get a 14 tonight! "

Two students in the UK（主动提出） to do some volunteer work during the school holidays. They wrote the following reports.

Every year hundreds of people try to climb the world's highest mountain or walk through rainforests（雨林）. Let's take a look at two of the 21st century's（世纪的）greatest adventurers（冒险家）. 

A mountain climber

Do you know that more than 4，000 people have climbed Mount Everest？Gerlinde is one of them. She is one of the world's greatest climbers and has climbed all the mountains over8，000 meters in the world. It's difficult to climb mountains in cold weather，but Gerlinde loves it. She started climbing the mountains near her home as a teenager. When she left school，she became a nurse but always went climbing in her free time. 

An Amazon adventurer

Ed Stafford is the first person to walk along the Amazon River from the mountains of Peru to the mouth of the river in Brazil. His journey took two years and four months. There are many dangerous animals in the rainforest. But Ed was lucky and he was only bitten（咬） by small insects（昆虫）. On his trip，Ed had to look for fruit or catch fish each morning. Sometimes food was hard to find and Ed was often tired and hungry. So he used a radio to ask the people of the rainforest for food and help.
