I will never forget my trip to Bulgaria. I found everything interesting, like the restaurant I went to one day. After I finished my food there, a waiter politely asked if I enjoyed it. The food was delicious and the service was great. So I showed that I really loved it by nodding my head.
Strangely, the waiter did not smile but frowned (皱眉). It was like that he was not quite happy with my answer. I did not know what was wrong and felt very upset. A lady sitting next to me explained in English that in Bulgaria, nodding one's head means "no" and shaking one's head means "yes". This is completely different from my country.
I thanked the kind lady and called the waiter over. ▲ This time, the waiter smiled and brought me some dessert.
Body language is different from country to country. It is important for us to learn about a country's culture. Take a look at my experience and you will know why.
