The rabbit is my favourite animal. My mother brought me a rabbit on my last birthday. I was so happy and excited because I had wanted it for a long time. My rabbit is a little heavy with two long ears. Its eyes are round and red, just like two red diamonds. Its fur is as white as snow, so we call it Little White. You will feel comfortable if you touch its long fur. It appears that it moves by jumping all the time, because its two front legs are shorter than the back ones. Rabbits can express different feelings by making different sounds, so I can learn Little White's feelings by listening to its sounds. It's very funny that it sleeps with its eyes open.

I play with Little White after school every day. It's very happy to play games with it and see it run around lively. But sometimes it makes me angry. Once,I found that my bedroom was messy my books. my clothes and other things were everywhere on the floor. And Little White was even sleeping in my bed. When it heard my sound. it woke up quickly and ran around. I caught it with great effort. IWas so angry. But when I blamed it. it did not make a sound with its head low. It appeared that it was sorry for what it had done. Its expression made me laugh and I wasn't angry with it any more.

Little White is good at smelling. Sometimes when I am eating something, it can smell the food and comes near to me. as if to say "I want to eat too." It's very funny.

Little White is faithful to me and brings my family lots of happiness. I love it so much and it has become my good friend. I also learn to be a responsible and patient girl from taking care of it.

Many people like animals and take them as their pets, so pet hospitals are usually very busy. Kind persons who love animals are needed to help in busy animal hospitals. Those animal doctors will teach them how to take care of the animals.

Scientists think that pets will probably be much smaller because people in the future will live in much smaller space. Scientists are now working on making very small farm animals. The same thing might be done to make small cats and dogs.

It's said that some day you might own a panther (豹) as a pet. Some scientists believe that they might have to start turning wild animals into pets, since this might be the only way to save them from dying out.

What about a robot for a pet? This may sound silly, buy it could become true. Robot dogs have been made to sell. They are like real dogs. These pets might become more and more popular in the future.

Lots of people miss their pets while they are on holiday. One hotel in Minnesota has solved this problem. They lend cats to their guests. Many experts believe this idea will become more and more popular. It is very possible that in the future you will be able to order a pet, as well as room service, at a hotel.

    1. (1) Why do the scientists want to make the farm animals smaller?
A . Because people in the future may own smaller living space. B . Because robots will become pets. C . Because they like smaller animals. D . Because animals are dying out.
    2. (2) In order to protect the animal from dying out in the future, people will probably keep ____ as a pet.
      A . a cat B . a dog C . a robot D . a panther
    3. (3) What's the 4th paragraph about?
      A . Smaller pets. B . A robot for a pet. C . A panther for a pet. D . Farm animals for pets.
    4. (4) According to the article, which of the following is TRUE?
A . The persons who keep animals have to help in busy animal hospitals. B . Because there are more and more animals, pet hospitals are usually very busy. C . In the future wild animals will probably become pets. D . The pets have become smaller and smaller.

Do you know about pets' feelings? When is your dog happy? A new app called Happy Pets can tell you the answer.

The app can analyze(分析) the faces of cats and dogs. Then it can tell you what kind your pet is and how it is feeling. It can show you some feelings - happiness, anger, sadness and fear.

Scientists in Australia make the app. The key of the app is facial recognition(人脸识别), a common use of AI(人工智能). We can unlock our mobile phones with it. But this is the first time to use this technology with animals.

How does the app work? First, it analyzes a picture of an animal. Then, it analyzes the face of your pet. Is it a dog or a cat? Next comes the most important thing - finding out the feeling of the animal. For example, if a dog shouts at you with its wagging(来回摇摆的)tail, it means the dog is happy enough and it loves you. If a dog closes its eyes and mouth while moving its ears back, this means the dog is afraid. When a dog is quiet and lies on the ground, it may feel sick or unhappy. To get this skill, the app "saw" and "read" a lot of example pictures before.

Can the app tell us the feeling of pets exactly? The scientists are sure about it. They find that cats are more difficult to read than dogs. In the future maybe the app will analyze different sounds pets make.

    1. (1) The underlined word "it" in paragraph3 refers to (指的是) ____.
      A . the picture B . facial recognition C . the mobile phone D . the pet
    2. (2) A dog named Puppy keeps moving back his ears with his eyes closed, he probably feels ____.
      A . happy B . sad C . afraid D . angry
    3. (3) Which of the sentences is TRUE according to the passage?
A . Happy Pets tells pets' feelings by analyzing tons of pictures. B . Happy Pets can help people unlock their mobile phones. C . The scientists find that it's easier to read cats than dogs. D . Happy Pets can understand different sounds of pets now.
    4. (4) Who may like this passage best?
      A . An artist. B . A pet lover C . A doctor D . A child
  • 6.  阅读理解

In today's world of modern science and medicine, a more traditional treatment (治疗) is once again becoming popular—animal friendship.

It is now well-known that people with problems such as heart disease (疾病) or cancer (癌症) live longer and get better more quickly if they have pets. Keeping pets lowers (降低) blood pressure and makes people less worried. Animals are increasingly important in treating older people who have memory loss (失忆) and other brain problems. These people often feel nervous and upset. Activities with animals help them improve their physical condition and also give them happiness, and loving friendship.

Here is a case that shows the benefits (受益) of animals. John was a six-year-old mute (哑巴). He had no physical problems. He just refused to talk. His older cousin, Ned, had a parrot (鹦鹉) called Sally, and John used to visit it. When he arrived, Ned used to say, "Hi, John!" We all know parrots copy what they hear. After a few visits, Sally began saying "Hi, John!" when John came into the room. Then, one day John turned to the parrot and replied "Hi, Sally!" Saying with the parrot encouraged John to begin talking.

Another use of animal helpers is in schools. In some cases, animals are used to help children with physical or personal problems. In other cases, they are used to teach children to get on and share with others, and even to teach them about animals.

If you want to know more about animal helper programs, you can get in touch with organizations like Riding for the Disabled or do a research on the Internet. You don't have to be an animal trainer or a doctor to join in. You can work there as a volunteer. People there will welcome you.

    1. (1) What's does the second paragraph mainly tell us?
A . The problems of keeping pets for people with physical problems. B . The advantages of keeping pets for people with physical problems. C . Some new medical researches on people with physical problems. D . The reasons why so many people nowadays have physical problems.
    2. (2) How are the third and fourth paragraphs mainly developed?
A . By telling several moving stories. B . By showing some of the writer's experiences. C . By giving several examples. D . By comparing two products.
    3. (3) What would be the best structure for this passage?

      (Paragraph 1=①Paragraph 2=②Paragraph 3=③Paragraph 4=④Paragraph 5=⑤)

      A . ①/②/③④/⑤ B . ①②/③/④/⑤ C . ①/②/③/④⑤ D . ①②/③④/⑤
    4. (4) What would be the best title for this passage?
      A . How to Treat Diseases. B . Human's Friends—Animals. C . Let's Protect Animals! D . Get Healthy with Animal Helpers.
