Most people think the capital of the movie world is Hollywood, in America. However, the real movie capital is Mumbai, in India. Mumbai used to be known Bombay. The movie industry there is often called "Bollywood". Bollywood makes twice as many movies as Hollywood — over 1,000 a year.
The movies from Bollywood are very different from made in Hollywood. Bollywood movies are much longer than most Hollywood movies. Most Bollywood movies are more than three hours long, and include singing,, action and so on. Because Bollywood movies have so different topics, this style of movie is sometimes called a "masala" movie — "Masala" is an Indian word for a mix of different spices(香料).

I think that a great friend is a great artist who can change my feeling about life greatly. When I talk about the person who influenced me most, I must think of my best friend quickly.
When I was in my university, one of my classmates sat beside me. His name is Wang Tao. He is my unforgettable friend in my life. He is good at study and handsome. Everyone knows that he is a genius(天才)of my university.
He is kind and is always ready to help others. But he doesn't like others to praise him, because he think what he did is common. There is an old saying, "A friend in need is a friend indeed". Wang Tao sets a good example in many parts in my life.
I remembered that my math was not good at that time, but he was excellent in solving math problems. He often got high scores. Of course, I wished I could reach at his level. Since we talked all day long, he was patient and polite to answer my math questions. Slowly, I made great progress in math. I passed the exam finally. Then we became friends naturally. And now, I still remember his strong will to study.
We know that we live in a society, so we need a lot of friends. There are two kinds of friends, good and bad. Bad friends may make our life failed, while good ones make our life successful. To me, Wang Tao is a very good friend. I learned so many advantages from him, and I changed more and more excellently.
We separated three months ago. Now I miss him very much, and I hoped that our friendship will continue to be just as strong after we graduate.
The Great Barrier Reef is among the most famous natural wonders of the world. However, it is not the only natural wonder of Australia. Another popular natural site is located in the desert, the heart of Australia. This natural wonder is a huge rock formation(岩层)called Uluru, or Ayers Rock.
The two names for this rock formation come from the two languages of Australia. Uluru is an Aboriginal(土著的)word with no real meaning. It is just the name of the rock. The English name, Ayers Rock, was given to this natural wonder in the 1800s by an Englishman named William Gosse. Gosse named it after the Chief Secretary of South Australia at that time, Sir Henry Ayers. Today, both names are used for the site.
Looking at Uluru from a distance, viewers are first astonished to see this huge, lonely rock in the flat ground. Visitors who happen to be there early in the morning or late at night can also witness(目击)the changing colors of Uluru. The rising and setting sun changes the color of the formation, red, blue, pink, brown and gray at different times. What people cannot see, however, is that two-thirds of the formation is under the ground. What visitors to Uluru see is only one-third of the whole rock.
In case you are wondering how big Uluru really is, the top of the formation is 348 meters above the desert. It usually takes about two hours to hike to the top. There is also a 10-kilometer trail that visitors can follow to walk all the way around Uluru.
China is famous for tea. Drinking tea is very popular in China and even all over the world. It's said that a Chinese ruler called Shen Nong was the first to discover tea as a drink. A few thousand years later, Lu Yu, "the saint of tea", mentioned Shen Nong in his book Cha Jing.
Nowadays, according to different processing ways, there are mainly four kinds of Chinese tea. They are green tea, black tea, Oolong tea and scented(有香味的)tea. Without fermentation(发酵), green tea keeps the original color of the tea. Oolong tea is partially(部分的)fermented. And if fragrant flowers are mixed in the tea during the processing, the scented tea will be made.
For example, Anxi and Hangzhou are widely known for their tea. Tea plants are grown on the sides of mountains. When the leaves are ready, they are picked by hand and then are sent for processing. Later, tea is packed and sent to many different countries and places.
It's believed that tea was brought to Korea and Japan during the 6th and 7th centuries. The tea trade from China to Western countries took place in the 19th century.
Tea is good for people's health.
A. Why isn't it called red tea in China? B. In England, tea didn't appear until about 1660. C. It plays an important role in Chinese social life. D. Tea is produced in many different areas in China. E. If the green tea is fermented before baking, it will be black tea. F. The book describes how tea plants were grown and used to make tea. |
One of the most famous people in ancient China was a wise philosopher named Confucius (551BC-479BC). He sometimes went by the name Kong Zi. He was born in the country of Lu. At the age of three, his father died. His mother was very poor. He never had a good education. As Confucius grew up, he wanted to learn things. So he decided to teach himself. Confucius was a strange-looking boy. He got very upset, but he was also a kind boy. Confucius didn't play with other children in his free time. But he always talked to artists and musicians and learned from them.
If he met with something difficult to do, he kept trying over and over again until he learned how to do it. Later, Confucius grew up to be a very clever man and became the leader of a city. He used his knowledge and skills in a wise and fair way to govern(管理)the city. He was very popular with his people.
People today believe Confucius was the wisest man who ever lived in China. He also made many wise sayings in ancient China that helped many people learn about nature, the world and the human behavior. Many of his wise sayings are still inspiring us, such as "It is happy to receive friends coming from a far place".
