Hi, my name's Alan. I'm from the USA. I go to school on weekdays, but not on Saturday or Sunday.
At seven o'clock, I have some bread and milk for breakfast. My class starts at 8:10. My friend Lisa sits in front of me, and my friend Peter sits next to me. We have three lessons in the morning, and we usually have English, maths in the morning.
In the afternoon, we usually have a PE lesson and we often play basketball. That's my favourite subject. I don't like history or geography because they are hard.
After school, I usually go back home at once and finish my homework. In the evening, I always go out for a walk with my parents for an hour. After that, I sit in front of the TV set with my parents and we talk with each other. I often watch CCTV-10. I can always learn something from it. I think watching TV is good for students, but don't watch too much.
Zhou Lei is a Chinese boy. He is twelve years old. He lives in Henan. He studies (学习)in Zhengzhou No. 1 High School. He is in Class Three, Grade Seven. He likes English very much, but he has a problem--his English is poor(差的). He wants to study it well. So he wants to find some English -speaking pen pals.
Now he has a letter from Tom, his pen pal in Canada. The letter is in English. Tom is fourteen and he is a student, too. He and Zhou Lei are in the same grade. He speaks English very well. In the letter, Tom says he wants to visit China and study some Chinese. Zhou Lei is very happy to get (收到) this letter. He thinks they can help each other with their problems.
In our city there is a car race every year. It's very exciting, so many people come to see it. Last year, there was a very big one. There were hundreds of people there. My wife and I were at the race. Our friends Julie and Jack were there, too. You could see them in the crowd(人群). They were on the left and cheered us. There were twenty cars in the race. There were English cars, American cars, Australian cars and Chinese cars. It was an exciting finishing. The winner was Billy Stewart. He was in car No. 15. And other cars were just behind him. On the way home, my wife said to me, "Don't drive so fast! You're not Billy Stewart!"
A woman brought her little child to the dentist. She went into the dentist's room and told him, "Please do your job gently because my child is very afraid. He gets afraid very easily. "The dentist said to her, "Don't be afraid, and you don't have to worry. " The mother then said, "Oh! That's very good. I'm Ted from America. We like Chinese food very much. They're famous in the world. They are Guangzhou food, Sichuan food, Shanghai food and so on. Guangzhou food is bit light, and Sichuan food is very hot. Shanghai food is very oily(油腻的).
In the south of China people have rice every day. They eat it with fish, meat and vegetables. In my family, my father likes dumplings very much, but my mother doesn't like them at all. I like Chinese food a lot.

The Reasons of Learning English
Today lots of people in China can speak English and more and more people are learning this language. Then what do they learn English for? We have done a survey and here are some people's reasons:
Alice White: I like traveling by myself very much. I've been to many places in China, and I plan to travel to some foreign countries. English is the most widely used language in the world, so learning English will do great help to my trips.
Mark Smith : I'm actually not so interested in English. Ilike Chinese more. However, 1have to learn English. We have to take English exams and the score of English takes a large part in the total score. Luckily, I'm not doing too badly in it, or I'll have to struggle with it.
Ben Green: It is necessary to learn English. As you know, the competition in the job market is very fierce (激烈的). If I have a good knowledge of English, I will have a chance of getting a good job.
Kate Lu: It's interesting, isn't it? I can get information that others can't get. I can talk and write letters to interesting people that others can't communicate with. And I can always make people surprised by speaking good English.
