Last Thursday，I travelled on the 8：00 a. m. train from Glasgow to London King's Cross and I was quite angry with the service of your company. 

The train didn't come on time and it was forty minutes late when it left Glasgow. A man at the station said sorry to us，but he didn't give us any reasons for the delay （延误） . We then had further delay on the way and had to wait another thirty minutes. As a result，I missed my plane from London to Frankfurt and had to wait for several hours. 

What's more，the service on the train was also very poor. The trip took more than five hours. Unluckily，we could buy nothing but some soft drinks on the train. Worst of all，something was wrong with the air conditioning（空调系统） and it got hotter and hotter in the train. Before we reached King's Cross，the temperature was over 40℃. 

Because of your poor service，I feel you should pay me compensation（赔偿金） .

It's the Chinese New Year today. Grace gets a red packet from her grandma. That's her favorite part of the festival. She gets four dollars and goes shopping in Chinatown（唐人街）. 

There are lots of interesting things in the streets—lion dances and nice food. Then Grace sees an old man. The man sleeps in the street. He doesn't wear shoes. "He doesn't have a home. What a poor man!"she thinks. 

At a toy（玩具）store，Grace wants to buy a toy Monkey King. But it's six dollars. Grace wants to go back home and get more money. On the way，she sees the old man again. "Why not give（给）the four dollars to him？He can use the lucky money to buy some hot food and drinks，"she thinks. 

She gives the money to the old man and goes back home. Her grandma knows her story and gives her a big hug（拥抱）. What a nice girl !

Strawberries look nice，but a light pressure can make them out of shape. Nowadays，there are many young people who are just like strawberries. They easily break down when they face difficulties. They don't know what to do when they are in trouble. They have a common name—strawberry kids. 

Why are many students so easy to break down？Parents and schools are a main reason. Parents do almost everything for them in their daily life，while schools care more about their grades instead of developing their personality（个 性）. 

Liu Yue，13，is from Fujian. His mum hardly criticizes（批评）him and he always feels good about himself. When a teacher criticized him strictly，he felt surprised and sad. He began to doubt（怀疑）his ability.

I was cute，active，happy. . . until that day when I was fifteen months old. When I 1  on a glass rabbit，I had a bad fall. The glass rabbit cut my eye 2  badly that my eye was blind. The doctor said that if the eye was taken out，my face would become out of3 ，so my scarred（有疤痕的），blind and grey eye lived on with me. 

People often asked uncomfortable questions about my eye or 4  play jokes on me. When the kids played games，I was always the "bad guy". I grew up imagining that everyone looked down on me. 

However，every time Mum noticed I was unhappy，she would say to me， "Hold your head up high and face the world. " It 5  me to move on in life. As a child，I thought Mum meant， "Be careful，or you will fall down or knock into something 6  you're not looking. "

As a teenager，I always look down to hide my shame（自卑），but I found that people liked me when sometimes I held my head up high.

Florence worked 20 hours a day to make the hospital a（ clean） and safer place. She brought fresh food，she cleaned the beds（ careful） and she used clean bandages on the wounded soldiers. Soon fewer（ man） were dying. At night，Florence talked to the injured soldiers and helped write letters to（ they） families. They called her " the lady with the lamp "，because she always（ carry）a lamp. When Florence returned to England，people called her a hero. She（ give） the honor— Order of Merit，becoming the first woman to receive it. 

It's very popular to travel in modern life. As travelers，we should try our best to protect the environment. Here is some advice on how to be a green traveler. 

◆Make smarter flight choices

Air travel is not an environmentally﹣friendly way to travel because it uses a lot of energy. If you must fly，be sure to pack light to cut down the plane's load. And try to book a non﹣stop fight （预订直达航班）. Connecting fights （转机航班）usually require longer periods of lying and planes will use more energy. 

◆Respect （尊重） natural environment

Marked hiking tails （有指示标识的游览步道） are there usually to protect the natural environment and keep wild plants safe. In beach areas，don't use products that are harmful to the sea water and try to protect the ocean's ecosystem. 

◆Support locals directly

Buying handmade products and art pieces created by local people can help hand down cultural tradition and create jobs. Food that is grown locally and things that are sold by local families are often better and cheaper，all while helping keep money in local pockets. 

◆Find ways to give back

Consider the ways that you can help the local community and give back while traveling. This can be as simple as picking up litter in a park or volunteering to clean up a beach. If you're planning a trip where volunteering is your main goal，make sure you won't take jobs away from local people.
