You must have read or heard of the sad love story between Jia Baoyu and Lin Daiyu. But can you imagine the two singing opera in English instead of speaking poetic Chinese？

Jia and Lin are two characters from the classic Chinese novel A Dream of Red Mansions（《红楼梦》），written by Cao Xueqin （1715﹣1763）. Named as one of China's Four Great Classics，the book has a far﹣reaching influence on later writers. Now the book has been made into an English language opera. After being performed in San Francisco，US，the performance came to Beijing，Changsha and Wuhan. 

Many of the opera's creators have backgrounds in both Chinese and American cultures，including the director and playwrights（剧作家）. Their understanding of both cultures helped them change a Chinese classic into a foreign﹣language opera. 

The book，which covers the rise and fall of the Jia family，has 120 chapters and hundreds of characters. But opera writer David Henry Hwang cut down the number of characters to just seven. Hwang，a Chinese﹣American，focused on the love story between Jia and Lin and tried to write a heartbreaking story that everyone would understand. 

The art director Timmy Yip，from Hong Kong，tried to help foreign people understand the characters using costumes and stage settings（布景）. He compared Lin to water and gave her a light green costume. When Lin showed up，there was usually water around her on the stage. 

The creators considered it to be a meaningful job to introduce a Chinese classic to Western audiences. Hwang told China Daily he was happy to "have made a contribution（贡献） to the land where my parents were born". 

Pandas are China's ambassadors（大使） and are loved by many people around the world. In February，pandas including Xiang Xiang and Yong Ming came back home. Before this，they were on loan to Japan. 

Since the early 1980s，China has stopped giving away pandas as gifts because of their falling numbers. In the 1990s，China started 10﹣year loans of pandas to other countries. Today about 60 pandas are living abroad.

Wei Rongping，the head of the Wolong Panda Base in Sichuan says the overseas zoos need to meet several conditions. For example，there must be a healthy and safe environment for pandas to live in. In 2017，to welcome pandas Xing Ya and Wu Wen，the zoo in the Kingdom of the Netherlands built a Chinese﹣style panda house. It offers a clinic（诊所），a cold bamboo keeping room and a nursery when pandas are ready to have babies. 

Also，the zoo must give pandas enough food because a panda may eat 12 to 38 kilograms of bamboo in a day，which means they spend at least 12 hours eating each day. Pandas Si Hai and Jing Jing traveled to Qatar in 2022. Every week，the park buys 1，000 kg of fresh bamboo from their hometown，Sichuan. Keepers there also learn the Sichuan dialect（方言） to better talk to the pandas.

A blind box keeps what's inside a secret（秘密）. Usually，there are toys in blind boxes，but now stores are putting leftover（过剩的） food in them. 

The food inside is near its expiration date（保质期） and will be thrown away if no one buys it. Each box costs little money but has a lot of food inside. They are more and more popular in China's cities，such as Beijing，Nanjing and Chengdu. 

Back in 2021 when I was studying in the UK，I bought leftover blind boxes from an app called Too Good To Go. Each box cost about 3 to 5 pounds （27 to 45 yuan），and there were usually three to four things inside. For example，a box I bought from the coffee shop Costa had three kinds of bread and one cake. The box cost 3 pounds but the original price（原价） was around 10 pounds. 

Every time I bought a blind box，the excitement of opening it hit me first. That helped me save a lot of money. Wasting less food is also good for the environment. 

But the boxes also brought me problems. Since I can't choose what's in the box，sometimes I got the same kind of food. Also，the food may not be healthy enough. I had to make other dishes，such as a salad，to make the meal healthier. 

Once upon a time，there lived a king who won many battles（战役）. But unluckily，in his last battle，he was badly hurt. He lost one 1  and one leg. 

One day，when the king was walking through the palace hallway，he saw the portraits（肖像） of many kings in the past. He thought that one day his children would also remember him 2  the portraits on the walls.

Visiting an amusement park can be great fun. But for （thousand） of special﹣needs people，the loud noises and fast﹣moving rides can be scary.
