Hi everyone! I am Yang Ruize. I live in Hong Kong. I am a third-grader at the Education University of Hong Kong Jockey Club Primary School. Let me show you my day at school.

9:10-9:50 | First class: We have Chinese, math and English every day. One of my favorite classes is computer studies. I learn to make simple online games or even music. It's the most interesting class to me. |
9:50-10:30 | Second class: Another class I enjoy is general studies(常识课). This class covers knowledge of different subjects. |
10:55-11:35 | Third class |
11:35-12:15 | Fourth class: I think the most difficult class is visual arts. It's not just about drawing but about architecture and design(建筑和设计). |

One day at work in December 2020, Archibald, a barber(理发师)in London, met a woman and talked with her. When the woman asked him what else he wanted to do, Archibald thought for a minute and then told the woman he wanted to feed homeless people. It was what he thought from the heart.
Days later, Archibald kept thinking of the talk. As he drove away from work one evening, something in him changed.
He bought some bread and 60 bottles of water. Then he called a friend and asked her to help him make sandwiches that night. Archibald woke up early the next morning and decided to hand out the sandwiches before going to work. He wanted to drive to London Bridge Hospital, but on the way, he saw a tent village. So he started handing out sandwiches there. The people there thanked him for his kindness.
Archibald started having a moving barber shop in May 2021 and returned to what he wanted to do in that talk. But this time, lots of people offered to help and more homeless people got help.
After that, Archibald drives to the city centre on Sundays to offer homeless people a one-stop shop for a shower, haircut and a meal. Anyway, Archibald hopes to help the homeless people across the country one day.
Do you remember the elephant "tour group" in Yunnan? Where are they now? They are back at their home!
In March, 2020, a family of 15 wild Asian elephants left their living place in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province. They kept going north, through mountains, forests, rivers and even city streets. Along their journey, they ran into villages and ate farmers" corn. But no one blamed(h怪)them. "It is OK. They are just hungry," a farmer said.
Scientists guessed that the elephants were losing their habitat, so they might go north to look for a new home with more food. Or the group might lose its way because its leader had no experience!
To help the elephants get home and protect them, the government used 76 police cars and trucks, as well as nine drones(无人机). Police and scientists closely watched them. They watched the group's movement and sent warnings(警示)to people on the road not to get close to the elephants. They also helped them with food and drink. Finally, the elephants ended their trip safely and happily after 17 months and a 500-kilometer journey.
The Asian elephant is the largest land animal in Asia. Yunnan is the only habitat for wild Asian elephants in China. The province has built 11 nature reserves. However, there are only 300 Asian elephants left in China. The WWF is working hard to save them.
①The hungry elephants ran into villages and ate farmers" corn.
②The government did something to protect wild Asian elephants.
③A family of wild Asian elephants started their journey to the north.
④These elephants came back home safely and happily.
Astronauts in space just got a tasty delivery(投递). It came from students in Melbourne, Australia. They are starting a test on space yogurt. The 40 high school students are working with the scientists from Swinburne University. Together, they are studying bacteria(细菌)that make yogurt.
A rocket delivered the bacteria to the International Space Station(ISS). The students are hoping to learn what will happen to bacteria on the ISS.
"On Earth, you feel gravity(重力). But this does not happen on the ISS." said Mike, who studies at Swinburne University. They want to know what conditions the astronauts need to make yogurt.
But how exactly do bacteria make yogurt? It all starts with the bacteria that live in milk. These bacteria eat the sugar in milk. Then they make a kind of acid(酸). The acid turns the milk thick and sour.
The students filled 36 boxes with milk and bacteria. Then, they sent the boxes to the ISS. The astronauts will use different kinds of milk and bacteria and run tests for 6 weeks. Then, they will send the yogurts back to Australia.
The students will study the yogurts when they come back to Earth. They want to look at the nutrients(营养物)in the yogurts.
"We even might get to taste them. It is pretty exciting" Linda, a student at Swinburne University, said. The students also want to compare the space yogurts to the ones they grow on Earth.
Dr. Sara Webb works with the students on this project. She hopes they can send astronauts to space with bacteria and milk. Then they can easily make their own tasty yogurts in space.
Volunteering means spending some of your free time helping others. You may volunteer to help other people. And you can also volunteer to protect animals, the environment, or any other things that you care about.
Volunteering helps others, but it can also help you. If you' re upset about something that's happened— volunteering can be a great way to deal with your feelings.
School is a good place to start if you're looking for volunteer ideas. Ask a teacher for ideas. Some places want volunteers who are 12 or even older, depending on the job. Often kids start volunteering by working alongside their parents.
Volunteering is a great way to have fun with your family. Talk to your parents, brothers, or sisters and see what they might be interested in doing. Find something you all agree on.
Other volunteers may have much experience of being a volunteer. They can teach you how to be a good volunteer. So you can work with them.
You can also come up with your own ways to raise money or provide needed services. Here are some ideas: make and sell products and give the money to the charity. Try out for a volunteer after-school reading program.
Volunteering can help you learn many important things. So what are you waiting for? Make a plan to start volunteering today.
A. Find your own ways. B. Work with other volunteers. C. Get started with volunteering. D. Help yourself by helping others. E. Do things with family members. F. Help kids decide what they want to do. |
One day, 60 people were listening to a speech(演讲). The 1 was talking about happiness. 2 , after a few hours, people started to lose their attention(注意力). The speaker came up with an idea. He 3 his speech and asked all of the people to take part in a group activity.
He gave each person a balloon(气球)in the room and asked them to write his or her 4 on the balloon with a pen. Then his assistant(助手) 5 all of the balloons and moved them to another room.
When all 60 people walked into the room, the speaker told them to 6 the balloon that had their own name written on it. Everyone ran around, crazily 7 their own balloon. Many people even fell over. What a mess!
But after about five 8 of searching, 9 could find their own balloon. 10 seeing this, the speaker asked each person to collect a balloon and try to find the person whose name was written on it. Everyone started talking to each other and asking each other 11 their name. In just a few minutes, everyone had his or her own balloon.
"Can you see what happened?" the speaker said. "The balloons are like the 12 we look for in our own lives. Everyone is 13 looking for their own happiness, not caring what happens to others. But sometimes the best 14 to find happiness is to help others. Help 15 find happiness and you can find your own."
The Double Ninth Festival is one of the most important festivals in China. It is special day for elderly people. It (begin)long ago. The festival is the ninth day of the ninth month of the lunar calendar(阴历). As the Chinese word for nine has the same sound as the word for long, people take the Double Ninth Festival to show (they)wishes of long life for elderly people. They hold many activities to show love and respect(尊敬)to the old. On that day, (family)get together and climb mountains for luck and in the hope that elderly people will live much (long). They (usual)drink chrysanthemum wine(菊花酒)and wear a plant called zhuyu (celebrate)it. It is a (tradition)virtue(美德)in China to respect elderly people. Dear Li Ping, How is it going? Haven't heard from you for a long time. I have some problems with my parents recently. They want me to practice playing basketball in an after-school class. But I'm not interested in sports. Also, I often argue with them about chores. They think it's necessary for me to do chores but I don't think so. I feel so upset. What should I do? Can you give me some advice? Hope to get your reply soon. Mike |
