    With a history of over 1, 000 years, coconut carving（椰雕） is a treasured heritage in Wenchang city, Hainan province. Zhang Bidi, a 54-year-old coconut carving artist, has found a big market for small coconut carvings.
    Zhang has developed a deep love for coconut carving since his childhood. In1991, after graduating from high school, Zhang went to Shenzhen and worked in a company making game pads for years. In 2010, an idea suddenly popped into his head. From nowhere, he was thinking of making blue-tooth loudspeakers out of coconuts. Zhang believed that the loudspeakers would be popular, and he continued to dig into the industry （产业）. It turned out to be the best idea ever.
    In 2015, Zhang returned to his hometown and started a , coconut carving company with his wife. However, few people knew about coconut carvings and the industry scale（规模） was small. To solve the problem, he decided to add modern designs to traditional coconut carvings to keep the skill alive. Zhang set up a carving workshop in 2018. He teaches young people coconut carving skills and designs. His company provides jobs for students and helps farmers make money. More than 300 different kinds of carved coconut products are produced, such as tableware, tea sets, ornaments （饰品） and so on.
    In the future, Zhang hopes coconut carving can be introduced to schools and that more students can learn about the art and better pass on the traditional skill.

    Unlike many other penguins（企鹅）, African penguins do not live in the coldest areas of the earth, but on warm sunny coasts of South Africa. They are the first penguin species （物种） discovered by humans.
    African penguins grow to 60 - 70 cm tall and weigh 3 -4 kg. They have pink patches above their eyes. Blood（血液） is sent to these patches to be cooled by the outside air. The hotter the weather gets, the pinker the patches appear. Each African penguin has a unique pattern of black spots（斑点） on the white chest. These spots, like human fingerprints, can be used to identify the penguins.
    African penguins feed mainly on fish. These flightless birds swim about 40 km every day for food. When they are very hungry, they sometimes cover a distance of 110 km. Their top swimming speed is about 20 km per hour. They can dive as deep as 120 meters and hold their breath for 2. 5 minutes underwater. African penguins moult（换羽） once a year for about 20 days. During this time, they can't hunt because their new feathers are not yet waterproof（防水的）. Without food, they lose nearly half of their body weight.
    African penguins live in groups called colonies. They can live for 10- 15 years in the wild, but those in protected environments can live for up to 30 years.
    Since the 1980s, the African penguin population has dropped. In 2010 African penguins were listed as endangered. Many of the birds have lost to their natural enemies. Human activities, such as overfishing and ocean pollution, have caused others to die.

After wearing masks in public for three years，many Japanese are taking classes to learn how to smile again. 

Smiling is meant to be a natural response，but it appears that hiding behind a mask for three years has left many Japanese unable to smile naturally. Some of the them now paying smiling trainers to teach them how to show their white teeth again in a natural way. They take special classes where they are taught how to exercise different parts of their faces and even their neck muscles（肌肉） to smile properly and express happiness without looking strange. 

"A smile is a smile only when it is shown on your face，"Keiko Kawano，a successful businesswoman who used to be a radio host, told the Japan Times. "Even if you're thinking about smiling or that you're happy， if you have no expression ， it won't reach the person you communicate with. " 

Kawano said that she has taught smiling classes to around 4，000 people since she started her work in 2017. However, requirements for her classes has rocketed recently after people stopped wearing masks. 

"Some people say that even if they're able to take off their masks，they don't want to show the bottom half of their faces, or that they don't know how to smile anymore，" smile trainer Miho Kitano said. "Actually, improving your smile is just like training the other parts of your body. It's all about the muscles, so exercising the expressive facial muscles is the most important thing. " 

Interestingly, smiling classes have been part of Japanese culture for several tens of years, and they have become popular again after the lockdown was ended.
