On the first day of this school year, I noticed a boy sitting in the back of my classroom. I began to spend lots of time 1 him. He never smiled or talked with his classmates. He was always quiet even if his classmates 2 him funny jokes. I went to his third-grade teacher and she said, "Yes, that' s John. He is always that way all year. " All the class knew he was still like before, 3 I didn' t want him to be like that this year.
One day this February, when I was 4 the classroom, I had a look at him suddenly and he smiled at me for the first time! I was so 5 but happy! I stood there for a moment, went over to him and put my 6 around him. He didn' t reply to the hug, but he smiled! The first change that I' d seen all year! He was 7 a little more while he was with his classmates. And the biggest thing was that he developed a good relationship with me. A few minutes after "the smile", I 8 and found him cleaning the classroom. He said in a very shy 9 , "I want to help you. "
I was sick last week and when I was in hospital, he sent me a card which said, "Miss King, the best teacher in the whole world, I hope you feel10 soon. " Seeing that little card, I knew why I loved what I was doing.
Many students ask for advice about improving (提高) their English. There are following basic(基本的) questions.
The first question is about real English. Li Hao from Hubei wrote, "I enjoy watching English films and listening to real English songs. But it takes a long time. What do you think? "
This is a great way to learn English! Talk about the film or song with your friends, and guess the meaning of the new words. Just enjoy yourself!
The second question is about speaking. Sam, from Suzhou wrote, "Our school has a foreign teacher. But I'm shy and can' t speak to her. What should I do? "
When I visit China, lots of people in the street say, "Hello! How are you? Where are you from? Do you like China? " These are good questions to start a talk. Many people are shy when they speak English, so before you begin, take a deep breath and smile! Smiling always helps.
The third question is about vocabulary. Oliver, from Anhui wrote, "I want to remember all the new words. I write them down, but I forget them quickly. What should I do? "
Try to remember eight or ten words a day. Write them on pieces of paper and place them in your bedroom. Say the words when you see them, and change them every day. And when you' re shopping, how about counting the English words, or saying the English names for everything you see?
As students, you may have many dreams. They can be very big like becoming Superman, or they can be small. You may just want to become one of the ten best students in your class.
If you find a dream, what do you do with it? Do you ever try to make your dream come true?
Follow Your Heart written by Australian writer Andrew Matthews tells us that making our dreams come true is life' s biggest challenge.
"You may think you' re not very good at some school subjects, or that it is impossible (不可能) for you to become a star. These ideas stop you from getting your dream," the book says.
In fact, everyone can make his dream come true. The first important thing you must do is to remember what your dream is.
Don' t let it leave your heart. Keep telling yourself what you want. Do this step by step (一步一步地) and your dream will come true faster. A big dream is, in fact, many small dreams.
Never give up (放弃) your dream. There will be difficulties on the road. But the biggest problem comes from yourself. You need to decide what is the most important. Studying instead of (代替) watching TV will bring you better exam points. Saving five yuan instead of buying an ice cream means you can buy a new book. When you get closer to your dream, it may change a little. Then you will be able to learn more skills and find new interests.

One of the best things you can possibly do is to start you own club. It' s great fun especially if you are the sort of person who feels there' s never anything to do during the school holidays.
The first thing you need to come up with is an idea for your club. Pets, clothes, pop music or dancing groups, sports, making things? The list is endless.
Next you need some friends to be in your club with you. . All you need is three or four other people who are interested in the same thing as you.
You should all sit down somewhere together with lots of pieces of paper and write down every name you can think up. That' ll keep you busy for ages.
At your first meeting you should make up a rule book. And the first rule should be no grown-ups or little/big brothers or sisters! The best clubs are always secret!
Now you have just about everything you need, except membership cards. These are very important and again you can spend a lot of time making them. Why not leave some space for a photo of yourself? That will make the membership card really look like it.
So there you are, get clubbing! Once you get started you' ll think of loads of more interesting things to do!
