When the days grow long in the middle of summer, Elsa likes to go to the park and watch the clouds.
One day, Elsa saw a cloud in the sky. It looked like a standing horse. After a few minutes, it became a flying horse. Then another cloud moved into it, and the horse changed into a dancing elephant. Then it became a sitting dog then a barking dog, and then a tiger.
"This is better than TV!" Elsa shouted.
Mr. White, the art teacher at Elsa's school, was drawing with his son in the park. He heard Elsa's voice and came up to her.
"Hi, Mr. White!" Elsa said. "Look at those clouds. They are always changing! First they looked like a horse, then an elephant, then a dog, and now a tiger!"
Mr. White looked up. "A tiger?" he said. "It looks like a lion to me. It's running towards the sun. That's so lively. "
Elsa looked again. He was right! "How do clouds know how to make so many shapes(形状) ?"
"Clouds don't know how to make shapes. Your imagination(想象力) helps you see those shapes in the clouds," Mr. White said as the lion changed into a giraffe.
The next morning, the four friends go to Oz's room.
The Scarecrow(稻草人) asks Oz, "Is my brain(大脑) ready?"
The little man opens a green box with the word "brain" on it. He slowly puts a brain into the Scarecrow's head.
"Now you are a very clever scarecrow," says Oz.
The Tin Woodman(铁皮人) is next.
"Where is my heart(心脏)?" he asks.
Oz takes out a beautiful red heart from the green box.
"Here is a special red heart. Wear it all the time," says Oz.
"Thank you!" says the Tin Woodman. "Now I can love someone. "
"Now, you must give me courage!" says the Lion.
Oz gives him a green bottle with the word "courage" on it.
The Lion drinks it quickly and then smiles.
"I am very, very brave now!" says the Lion, "Thank you!"
"And what about Toto and me?" asks Dorothy quietly.
‘I can take you to Kansas in my hot-air balloon(气球),"says Oz. "Come with me!"
But Toto suddenly sees a cat and runs after it. "Toto! Come here!" says Dorothy. She runs after Toto to pick it up. But it's too late. The rope(绳子) breaks and the big hot-air balloon goes up into the sky with Oz in it.
"Go to the land of the Quadlings, Goodbye," cries Oz. "The Good Witch of the South lives there. She can help you!" Then Oz and the hot-air balloon fly far away.
If you want to know real Beijing, walk along the streets of Beijing and visit a siheyuan. As traditional buildings, siheyuan is mostly seen in northern China.
A typical siheyuan has a big square courtyard (院子) with four buildings on all four sides. Usually, one big family lives here. The design of a siheyuan follows Confucian (儒家的) ideas of respecting authority (权威) and the old. The northern main house gets the most sunshine, so the eldest member of the family lives there. The east and west wing houses are for children and grandchildren. The southern building is closest to the doorway. It is usually for servants (仆人) or guests. Living under the same roof helps to form as strong family bond (纽带). Every family member stays close by sharing laughs and cries together.
But nowadays (如今), you can't see many of these traditional, beautiful buildings, but there are many modern, tall buildings in this big city. The number of siheyuan in Beijing has dropped from 40, 000 in the Qing Dynasty to 3, 000 today. In order to protect siheyuan, the government (政府) will do something.

A kindergarten teacher decided to have her class play a game. The teacher told each student to bring a plastic bag with a few pin it to school. Each student would "name" their potatoes after people they did not like. So the nof potatoes would be different depending on how many people each student d.
The next day, all the students brought their potatoes to school. Some kids had just one or two potatoes, while ohad as many as five or six. The teacher then told the children that they would have to ctheir potatoes with them wherever they went for one week.
Several days passed by. Some of the students started to complain btheir potatoes began to rot and smell bad. The students who carried more potatoes also complained about how htheir bags were. One week later, the game was over. The teacher asked, "How did you feel about carrying around your potatoes for a w?"
The students complained oagain. The teacher simply smiled and said, "This is what it's like to carry hate in your h. You have to carry it with you wherever you go. If you can't tolerate(容忍) carrying rotten potatoes for one week, can you imagine having hate in your heart for a whole lifetime?"
The first year passes and the Soul comes back to the seashore. He calls the Fisherman. The Fisherman rises from the deep water and says, "Why do you call me?"
"Come and listen to my story," says the Soul.
The Fisherman comes near. He lies in the water. He leans his head on his hand and listens.
The Soul begins his story:
I decide to go to the East. Everything in the East is wise. I travel for six days. On the seventh day I come to the land of the Tartars. There are lots of hills and the land is dry and hot. I sit under a tree and watch. People come and go. Then the Tartars go and fight.
The moon is high. I see a fire. There are merchants sitting on carpets. There are tents and camels. I go over and the chief merchant stands up and takes out his sword.
‘Who are you?' he asks me.
‘I am a Prince. I am running away from the Tartars. I do not want to be their slave(奴隶),' I answer.
The merchant takes my hand and I sit beside him. Then a servant brings me milk and food.
In the morning the caravan starts on its journey. I ride on a red-haired camel next to the chief. The men of war walk with their weapons. Eighty mules follow us with all the things we have to sell. There are forty camels in the caravan.
We leave the land of the Tartars and we travel to many strange lands.
