These days, few 11-year-olds are allowed to walk to school by themselves. However, 11-year-old Rosalie Atkins is travelling the world alone.
Rosalie Atkins lives in England. Her parents decided to let her travel alone. This summer Rosalie's mother put her on a plane to Paris with a host family.
Rosalie spent a week visiting Paris. She visited the Eiffel Tower and Notre-Dame, as well as several museums, markets, and parks. "If I had visited with my parents, we would have seen only the touristy parts of Paris," said Rosalie. "But because I was staying with a French family I saw more." Travelling to different countries, Rosalie also expressed the confidence. "I am quite confident when I have to talk to new people, which is a useful social skill," Rosalie said.
Rosalie is glad that her parents allow her to go on adventure that other kids could only dream of. Rosalie said, "Your parents aren't going to travel with you forever. You have to learn to be independent some day, and in my opinion the sooner the better. "
Before my first skydiving(跳伞), I was a little afraid. But my classmates persuaded(说服) me to do it. Luckily, I had the chance to do it with them. It was fun to jump together.
It was a nice sunny day when we went to skydive. We took a 6-hour course and were ready to subdue(征服) the sky. Unluckily, the weather changed. It began to rain. We had to wait until the next weekend. We were really excited. However, when the next weekend came, we finally did it.
Wow, it was exciting! I couldn't express all the feelings of free flight. I was happy, frightened, excited, and satisfied. All of these feelings happened at the same time. I could see the earth below me as I flew like a bird with my parachute.
The last couple of seconds, I realized I could not land the ground because right under me there was a tree! I didn't have time to think about it. I landed in the tree, but it was a smooth landing. I got a lot of help from my classmates. I have never forgotten this special experience.

My name is Alice, a woman from England. I've lived in Sheffield since my childhood. Now I work full-time as a nurse at a local hospital. But I have always been interested in art and history. I enjoy visiting museums and historic places, and expressing myself through artworks and photos. As a young child, my dream was to work in an art museum.
In the past few years, I always thought about doing some volunteer(志愿者) work with the Sheffield Museum. Last summer, I decided to go for it. I got in touch with the museum through its website. A few days later, the museum called me. On July 10th, I started doing some two-hour work twice a week. My work was to help the Visitor Experience team to welcome visitors and complete studies.
In November, I joined the Talking Tables project. On the Talking Tables, there were some special things about art. Visitors could touch them and ask questions about them. My job was to look after these things. In December, I took part in a seasonal celebration for volunteers at the Sheffield Museum. It was a lovely activity with delicious food. History professor Stephen Nissenbaum gave a speech in public about mid-winter traditions, which was well-known around the world.
I have found the museum workers and all the volunteers were very friendly. It has been enjoyable to feel useful in a completely different role and working environment from those of my regular (常规的) job. We are all ordinary people. But sometimes we can do something special to make our life different.
