Look!Here is a photo of my1 . The tall man is my father. He2 in a radio station. He likes his job. Every morning he gets up early, because he doesn't want to be3 for work. The radio station is far from our4 , so my father always drives to work. It usually5 him about forty minutes. The woman6  white is my mother. She is a teacher. She7 music in my school. She usually goes to school8 . She likes walking and she says it's good9 Can you see the girl in black?It's10 My name is Lisa. I walk to school with my mother every day. 

Chinese people have been celebrating（庆祝） the Dragon Boat Festival for more than 2, 000 years. It started when the Chinese remembered the great poet（诗人）Qu Yuan. His country was lost in the war, so he jumped into the Miluo River in Hunan and killed himself on that day. 

People threw zongzi into the river so the fish wouldn't cat the poet's body. Since then the Chinese have been making zongzi. Eating zongzi is, of course, a big part of the day. In the old days, nearly every family made zongzi by hand. But now, this custom changes. People hardly make zongzi at home. Most of them buy cooked zongzi in markets. It becomes a kind of fast food you can get any time you want. 

There are also other customs（习俗） on this day. People go to race dragon boats, drink realgar wine（雄黄酒） and put felon herb（艾草） on the front door. But some of these have gone（消失）. But not all of the changes are bad. In the old days, women couldn't race dragon boats because people thought it made them unlucky. Today people allow（允许） women to take part in racing boats just like men. 

All in all, the modern society sees many changes in how Chinese people celebrate the festival

There are many wide roads in the cities.  They can walk or ride a bike to school. They can get to school by bus or even by subway. They won't spend too long to get to school and go back home.  It's difficult for them to get to school. Usually they will spend a few hours on the way. 

In one small village, there is a big river between the school and the village. Because the river runs too quickly, the students can't get to school by boat.  It's dangerous for students to cross the river, but they are not afraid.  How eagerly （迫切地） they hope to have a bridge!

 And I also hope everyone can do something for them to help them walk out of the mountains. 

A. They have to go on a ropeway to cross the big river.

Do you know an old city called "Pingyao" in Shanxi?The old city is not far from Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi Province （省）. It's a town with a long history of more than 2000 years. 

The old city is very small. It is only 2. 25 square kilometers. And there are no tall buildings （ 楼 ） here. Most of the buildings have only two floors. And most of them are made of stones （石头）. There are many Chinese﹣style shops on each side of the street. 

Pingyao has a wall around it. It's about 6 kilometers long and 12 meters high. The wall has six gates （ 门 ）. 

And you mustn't miss the nice food in Pingyao. Try Pingyao beef and you are sure to love it. 

Pingyao is a place worth （值得） a visit. You can take buses or trains there. It's less than （少于） 2 hours' bus ride from Taiyuan. You need to pay only 20 yuan. If you take a train, it will take you less time, only one and a half hours. And if you want to go to Pingyao from Beijing, the train ride takes over four hours. 

Zhao Jiawei is a kind girl. She has black hair and big eyes. 

It is a Saturday. Zhao Jiawei is playing with her friend, Liu Yang, in the living room. Zhao's mother wants to buy some fruit for them. She falls down（倒下）on the way.  She soon calls 120. 

When Zhao is waiting for help, she does CPR（心肺复苏）on her mother with Liu Yang. Soon the doctor comes and takes Zhao's mother to hospital. 

Zhao is only thirteen years old. How does she know CPR?She says, "My mother and I often watch a TV show every Saturday and I learn it from the show.  I really like that show. I want to be a doctor when I grow up（长大）. "

Zhao Jiawei's mother thanks her daughter for calling 120 and doing CPR on her. 

The Spring Festival is the most important festival in China. It usually comes in January or February. Several days before it comes. people begin to make preparations. They buy pork, beef, chicken, fruit and many other things. And they often make a special kind of food dumplings. It means : coming together. 

On the day before the festival, parents buy new clothes for their children. Children also buy presents for their parents. On the Spring Festival Eve （除夕）, all the family members come back to their hometown. This is a happy moment. Some sing and dance, some play cards and others get the dinner ready. When they enjoy the meal, they give each other the best wishes for the coming year. 

They all have a good time. 

Nearly everybody enjoys chicken, and the most famous name in chicken is Kentucky Fried Chicken （KFC）. Mr. Sanders, started this restaurant. At that time, he had a small gas station next to a highway（公路 ）. Many drivers stopped there to get gas and take a rest. Mr. Sanders got to know they were often hungry, so he began selling sandwiches and coffee. Because the sandwiches tasted good and didn't cost too much. More and more drivers came to eat at his place. Then Mr. Sanders began to sell fried chicken. People liked it very much, and his new business grew rapidly（快速地）. 

However（然而）, not long after, there was another highway, and many drivers no longer（不再）went to Mr. Sanders' restaurant. So he had to close it. Then he traveled around the country. He tried to sell his idea of opening fried chicken restaurants. He succeeded（成功）. By 1967, there were almost 5, 000 Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants. And now, wherever（无论哪里）you go in the United States, you will see one. If you like chicken, I'm sure you'll enjoy eating in Kentucky Fried Chicken.
