There is good news for the children in the countryside. We may still remember the girl1 big eyes. Her big eyes are2 us her dream: I wish to3 ! In China, there are still4 girls and boys like her. They want to go to school, but their5 are too poor. If the family has two or three children, it is harder to6 the money for all the children. So the parents often ask7 to stay at home, and boys to go to school.
Now they needn't8 the money. From 2006 on, children can go to school for free(免费的) in some poor places. They don't have to pay for books and other things. Some of them can even get money from the government to make their life9 . Soon, all the children in the countryside can go to school for free. All families are very happy with the news. It is10 great.
Dear Chen Jie, How is it going? Last Monday, we talked about our dreams in the class meeting. Some students didn't know what they wanted to be in the future. But I said that I wanted to be an English teacher. I hope to be a good teacher like Mr Wu. He makes his math class interesting. He often tells us to work hard and try our best to achieve our dreams. What are you going to be when you grow up? Yours ,Li Ming |
Dear Li Ming. Thanks for your letter. My dream is to be a voluntary(志愿的)doctor. But my parents don't agree with me. They think the job will sometimes be very difficult. This week I wrote to my Chinese teacher, Miss Liu. I asked her for some advice. She said that a good doctor could help more people and she told me not to give up my dream. Now, I'm sure of my dream job and maybe I will go to work in a poor place one day, but I will always be your friend! Love,Chen Jie |
Dear students, Volunteering has never been an easy task. But if you are one of us, you will make a difference. Anyone who wants to volunteer-whether you work full-time or part-time-can find a way to help in our area. Below is an easy how-to guide to becoming a volunteer in our school. First, you need to complete an online volunteer form, which includes your personal information and volunteering experiences. The form is only on the school website. Once you are told that you can volunteer, you will only have to sign in with our clock system, wear your badge with your name on it, and when leaving, sign out to make sure your volunteer hours are recorded. Things you need to remember: 1. Sign in with the clock system every time you are in school. 2. Wear your badge. 3. Sign out when you leave to make sure your volunteer hours are recorded. Everyone, whether you are a volunteer or a visitor, will be asked to show one of the following to tell who you are in order to get past the school gate: 1. A driver's license in use; 2. A state-issued ID card; 3. A work visa; 4. A green card. If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out a school volunteer form and return it to the school Volunteer Officer or front office. The school volunteer officer will call you to discuss ways in which you can help in our school. Kevin Winberry Volunteer Program Director |
One Sunday, Mark decided to go sailing in his boat with his friend Dan, but Dan happened to be away. Dan' s brother John offered to go instead though he did not know anything about sailing. Mark agreed and they set out to sea.
Soon they found themselves in a thick fog. Mark was afraid they would be hit by a big ship. Just at that time he saw a large buoy(浮标) through the fog, so he decided to tie the boat to it for safety. As he was getting onto the buoy, however, he dropped the wet rope(绳子). The boat moved away in the fog, carrying John who didn't know how to use the radio. He drifted about(飘泊) and was not seen until twelve hours later.
Mark spent the night on the buoy. In the early morning he fell asleep. He was having a bad dream when a shout woke him up. A ship, Californian, came up and he climbed onto it and thanked the captain. The captain told him that John had been picked up by another ship and the ship's captain (船长)had sent out a message. "Without the message, I wouldn't have found you on the buoy," he said.
Today I Ate A Rainbow is a useful game about our health. It makes eating a rainbow of fruits and vegetables fun for kids!
In the game teachers or parents use a colorful rainbow(彩虹) chart and bright colored magnets(磁铁). They known about the fruits and vegetables they eat the whole day.
"Sometimes it can be really difficult to get children to eat their fruits and vegetables. Says Mrs. Welles, "My little son is weak but he doesn't like fruits and vegetables. He likes to eat junk food. I think this chart can help him know about his intake of fruits and vegetables. I'm sure the idea can work well.
Fruits and vegetables have vitamins, minerals and nutrients. Many nutrients give fruits and vegetables their bright color … the brighter the better! The chart is made up of these important color groups: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green and Indigo. The different bright colors show the different nutrients that each fruit or vegetable has. So we can use the rainbow colors as a guide to know what we should eat today.

Have you ever heard of friendships among animals? At a zoo in Germany, an (usual) friendship developed between a cat and a bear.
One day, some (worker) in the zoo noticed a black cat was in the bear's cage (笼子), and the two animals were enjoying (they) together. The bear keeper allowed the cat (stay) with the bear. And later, the pair and their friendship became hot topic at the zoo.
After several years, a new cage (build) for the bear. However, the cat was kept outside the cage, so it walked around (angry) and cried to be with the bear. Instead of (drive) the cat away, the bear keeper took pity on it and let it stay with the bear. The cat and the bear got closer than before. They often shared meals each other in the sun.
This may surprise humans they usually expect animals to form relationships with others of the same species (物种). However, it may be natural for animals to have their own ideas about who would make a good friend.
