In the past three years, people did things to prevent COVID-19 from spreading, which also prevented the spreading of flu. Thus, people's immunity (免疫力) to the flu went down. Besides, the flu and COVID-19 are different viruses, so getting COVID-19 does not protect you from getting the flu, said Wu Zunyou from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

Most people don't need to take medicine. The symptoms can go away after 3 to 7 days. But if the fever doesn't go down after three days, go to see a doctor.

The viruses go into the air. If someone nearby breathes them in, they could get sick.

If you catch the flu, go back to school 48 hours after the symptoms go away.

    Take vaccines (疫苗)

    Wear masks

    Wash hands often

    Open windows often

Qomolangma is the world's highest mountain. You may have learned from your textbooks that its height is 8,844 meters. But not all sides are in agreement on this. Different researchers have given different results. In addition, the height of the mountain can change over time.

That's why a 30-member Chinese survey team set out to reach the peak of Qomolangma to remeasure(重新测量) its height on May 6, 2020. They were equipped (配备) with the latest technology, including a global navigation satellite system receiver and a radar (雷达).

It is not an easy task. The average air temperature on the mountain is -29℃ -- four degrees lower than that in Antarctica -- and strong winds blow all the time. In such bad conditions, surveying drones (无人机) cannot work at the peak of the mountain. That's why it's still necessary to send human experts to the peak to get reliable (可靠的) results.

But does a difference of a few meters really matter when it comes to a high mountain?

In fact, measuring the height of Qomolangma is about more than just getting one exact number. Mount Qomolangma is at the point where the Eurasian plate (板块) meets the Indian plate. It formed 38 million years ago as the two plates hit each other. Changes in the peak's height can show whether the two plates are heading toward or away from each other. This can help us understand the movement of Earth's crust (地壳).

The survey team will also get firsthand information about environmental conditions at the top of the mountain. This will help us understand how climate change has affected the Tibet-Qinghai Plateau.

    1. (1) What do we know from the first paragraph?
A . Researchers measure the height of Qomolangma every year. B . There is no agreed-upon height of Qomolangma at present. C . It's not easy to measure the height of Qomolangma. D . The height of Qomolangma increases every year.
    2. (2) Which of the following words could replace "peak" in Paragraph 2?
      A . top B . side C . foot D . middle
    3. (3) What difficulty would the Chinese survey team face?
      A . A lack of water. B . Dangerous animals. C . The movement of Earth's crust. D . Unfriendly weather conditions.
    4. (4) Which of the following might be the best title for the passage?
A . The growing Qomolangma B . Different opinions on Qomolangma C . Remeasuring the world's highest peak   D . People who climbed the highest peak

Living and dealing with kids can be a hard job these days, but living and dealing with parents can be even harder.

If I have learned anything in my 16 years, it is that communication is very important, both when you disagree and when you get along. With any relationship, you need to let other person know how you are feeling. If you are not able to communicate, you will drift apart. When you are mad at your parents, or anyone else, not talking to them doesn't solve anything.

Communication begins with the care of another. It means that you can't just come home from school, go up to your room and ignore everyone. Even if you just say "Hi", and see how their day was for five minutes, it is better than nothing. To keep a good relationship, you must keep communication strong. Let people know how you feel, even if it's just by writing a note.

When dealing with parents, you always have to make them feel good about how they are doing as a parent. If you are trying to make them see something as you see it, tell them that you'll listen to what they have to say, but ask them politely to listen to you. Shouting or walking away only makes the situation worse.

Here is an example: One night, Sophie went to a street party with her friends. She knew she had to be home by midnight after the fireworks, but she didn't feel she could just ask to go home. That would be rude. After all, they had been nice enough to take her along with her. Needless to say, she was late getting home. Her parents were mad at first, but when Sophie explained why she was late, they weren't as mad and let the incident go. Communication is the key factor here. If Sophie's parents had not been willing to listen, Sophie would have been in a lot of trouble.

Communication isn't a one-way deal: it goes both ways. Just remember: if you get into a situation like Sophie's, telling the other person how you feel-- listening is the key factor to communication.

    1. (1) In the writer's opinion, dealing with parents is ______ than with children.
      A . much easier B . more careless      C . more difficult D . more interesting
    2. (2) The underlined phrase "drift apart" in Paragraph 2 means_____.
      A . 合群 B . 漂流 C . 疏远 D . 分离
    3. (3) Sophie's example here is used to show that______.
A . Sophie is very polite to her parents B . It's OK to come back home late at night. C . Sophie's parents are very kind and listen to her D . Communication is the way to solve misunderstanding
    4. (4) All the following are true EXCEPT"______".
A . Communication is a two-way deal B . If you are not able to communicate, walk away C . It is better to say "Hi" to others than saying nothing D . If you don't agree with others, you'd better let them know

Do you sleep well? If your answer is no, the following might help you.

A certain bedtime and rising time can help you build up your body clocks. Set a bedtime which is good and natural for you. Don't change your bedtime and rising time on weekends.

Your body usually lets you sleep only the number of hours it needs. You should decide how many hours you must sleep in order not to experience daytime sleepiness.

A twenty-minute warm shower at a temperature of about 45-50℃is not only a great relaxation at a day's end, but also raises your body temperature by several degrees. The coming drop in the temperature of your body will naturally make you feel sleepy.

Exciting activities get your thoughts running. At the same time, if you make tomorrow's plan or read an exciting story before turning off the light, it won't give you enough time to relax before you try to sleep.

It's a bad habit for you to use your bedroom as a place to eat, watch TV, read, talk on the phone, or discuss important matters with your family members. Break that habit to get better sleep.

    A. Take a Warm Shower Before Your Bedtime

    B. Avoid Exciting Things Just Before Sleeping
