Sitting in the classroom, I felt nervous. Our teacher pointed at the blackboard and gave us instructions. Looking around, I watched as my classmates lowered their heads and started writing. I felt 1 —I couldn't read the board, for I couldn't see clearly. It didn't 2 at primary school because my teachers always read aloud what they were writing. But now, I was expected to read by myself.

Do you still remember the lesson from China's Tiangong space station last year? On March 23, astronauts Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu gave another one! It was live—streamed worldwide. What fun experiments did they do this time?
A bridge of water
How do you build a "bridge" with water? It's hard to do it on Earth. But in the space station, with little gravity, it's quite easy!
In the lesson, Wang Yaping first made two water balls on two plates, then let them touch each other. Next, Wang pulled the two plates away, and the water between them didn't break. It became a "bridge"!This is because the surface tension( 张 力 )of water is not affected by gravity in space. The surface tension keeps the "skin"of the water strong so that the bridge doesn't break.
Separate water and oil
If we mix oil and water in a bottle on Earth, we can separate them quickly because they have different densities(密度). Gravity brings the water down while the oil stays on top. However, if you do this in the space station, with no gravity, oil and water will mix together.
How can we separate them, then? In the lesson, Ye Guangfu rotated spun the bottle to create centrifugal force. With this man—made gravity, the heavier water and the lighter oil are separated.
① On the Stork Tower
by Wang Zhihuan
The sun beyond the mountain glows;
The Yellow River seawards _____▲______
You can enjoy a grander sight;
By climbing to a greater height.
(Translated by Xu Yuanchong)
②This poem is only 20 characters long, but its perfect mixture of beauty and philosophical (哲理 的 )thinking has made it a classic for centuries. The first two lines of the poem describe scenery, while the last two lines show the poet's feelings.
③Wang Zhihuan used clever wordplay to write this poem. The first and second lines match in terms of their sound and meaning, as do the third and fourth lines.
④The first line describes the setting sun in the west, while the second line describes the river flowing towards the east. Together, they make for a great view. The third and fourth lines point out the fact that the higher one stands, the farther one can see. This not only shows the poet's great aspirations, but also encourages people to keep moving ahead and not to let success or failure go to their heads.
⑤ Wang Zhihuan(688-742) was a Tang Dynasty poet. He was a brave man. He liked to travel across China, drinking and waving his sword around while singing. He was good at writing quatrains. Most of Wang's poems describe natural scenery and life in the frontier of his country. Wang was good friends with frontier poets GaoShi and Wang Changling.
School started again, and soon the ink in Tom's spelling book was found. Tom said he hadn't split the ink, but that made it look as if he were lying. Becky almost said Alfred Temple had done it, but she kept quiet. She thought that Tom would tell the teacher about her tearing his book, so she didn't save him. Mr. Bobbins beat him and then Tom went back to his seat.
After an hour Mr. Bobbins unlocked his desk and took out his book. Tom looked over at Becky. She looked like a hunted and helpless rabbit. The next moment the master faced the children. There was a long silence, then he spoke, "Who tore this book?"
There wasn't a sound. The teacher searched their faces.
"Benjamin Rogers, did you do it?"
Benjamin said no.
"Joseph Harper, did you?"
Joseph also said no. Bobbins looked at the rows of boys, thought for a moment, then turned to the girls.
"Amy Lawrence?"
A shake of the head.
"Gracie Miller?"
The same sign.
Becky was next. Tom was shaking from head to foot.
"Rebecca Thatcher?"—(Tom looked at her face: it was white with terror)—"did you tear?— no, look at my face —did you tear this book?"
Tom jumped to his feet and shouted, "I did it !"
The children looked at his foolish act in surprise.
And when he stepped forward for his punishment, he saw the surprise, the thanks, and the love that came from Becky's eyes. This was enough for one hundred beatings. And he didn't even mind staying for two hours after school, because he knew that Becky was waiting for him outside.
Tom went to bed that night planning some actions on Alfred Temple, for Becky had told him
everything. And he fell asleep with Becky's last words to him in his ear, "Tom, you are so great. "
① Gracie Miller replied to the teacher by shaking her head.
② The children were surprised at Tom's foolish act.
③ Tom was beaten for the ink split in his spelling book.
④ Becky was thankful to Tom for what he did for her.
⑤ Mr. bobbins' book was carelessly torn by Becky.
Reading is often a lonely activity. This means that except for the times when your teacher reads to you, or you are part of a book group that discusses what you are reading, it is usually done alone. It is the perfect way to share with your friends a piece of work you love.
It's important to recite poems because it gives you confidence and helps with your reading. When you are very interested in reciting poems,
It brings them alive. Once you have picked a poem, you don't need to remember it. Just read from a book when you perform.
Before performing, spend plenty of time practising the poem and getting to know the words' rhythms. Get the sense of the poem as a whole, not just the words. With a lot of poems, you're discovering the words as you go along. To the listener, it's a journey of discovery you've started on with words.
The key to dealing with it is to realize that everyone feels that way, and those who perform well have learned to face it. Remember the more you perform, the easier it gets.
A. performing them is like acting in a theatre. B. Try not to stop at the end of every line. C. However, reciting a poem is different. D. Don't be afraid of reciting a poem. E. You don't have to worry about forgetting the words. F. Many people might be worried about feeling nervous |

Chinese culture is broad and great. In China, writing brushes, ink sticks, paper and ink stones are called the Four Treasures of Study. A them, the writing brush produced in Huzhou, the ink stick produced in Huizhou, the xuan paper made in Xuancheng and the ink stone made in Duanxi are the best.
The writing brushes can be used to draw the pictures on painted potteries (陶器). They are m made of animals'hair. Those made of wool are called yanghao and those made of the weasel's tail hair are called langhao. Their artistic effects in writing and painting cannot be c by any other pen.
The ink stick is the colour used in writing and painting. The ink stick produced in Huizhou is of high quality. A s goes like this: Two famous skilled men Xi Chao and his son produced a kind of high-quality ink stick. As a result, the Emperor Li Yu in the Southern Tang Dynasty a to give them the family name"Li". From then on, the fame of the Li Ink Stick was widely s . In the Song Dynasty, its producing area was changed into Huizhou, and it was then called the Hui Ink S.
Paper is among the four great i in ancient China. The famous xuan paper appeared in the Sui and Tang dynasties. In Xuanzhou, Anhui Province where the xuan paper is produced, it's said that Cai Lun's pupil Kong Dan took the job of producing paper but failed to make perfect white paper. Later he happened to see the ebony(檀木) in the rivers. It was wet with water and turned w . Then he used the tree skins to produce the world - famous xuan paper.
The ink stone was a very popular in the Han Dynasty. The Ming and Qing dynasties saw the appearance of the Four Famous Ink Stones—Duan Ink Stone, She Ink Stone, Tao Ink Stone and Chengni Ink Stone. They can not only be used in writing and painting but also for admiration.
Many Westerners thinks that everyone in China knows how to do kung fu. This is, of course, a silly belief. But it is true that kung fu is a big part of Chinese culture.
Like most people from the West, I was first introduced to kung fu through Hong Kong action films. Some Chinese kung fu stars like Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan made kung fu popular in the Western world. The cool and impressive performances they gave in films like Rumble In The Bronx and Enter The Dragon made them household names in the US and elsewhere.
However, my own personal interest in kung fu was actually encouraged by a hip-hop group. Wu- Tang Clan, founded in the early 1990s in New York City, is one of the most famous hip - hop groups in history.
In their songs, they sometimes mention philosophical concepts(哲学理念)that come from wudang quan—the style of Chinese martial arts from which they take their name—and the Shaolin Monastery. I was just a teenager when I first started listening to Wu -Tang Clan—little did I know that I would actually end up living in China later in my life!
I myself do not practice kung fu. However, the concepts behind it are quite interesting to me. There is a Bruce Lee quote that I often think of when I'm struggling with challenges in life. Be formless. . . shapeless, like water, " he once said. By this, he meant that you should be ready to change your attitudes or beliefs when you face difficulties. I think this is a good way to deal with life.
