Maria is a little girl. She doesn't like weekends at all because (因为) she has to1at home. Her parents are busy with2work, so they have no time to stay with her. Maria 3to have a weekend with her parents!
This morning, Maria's parents get up early and cook breakfast for Maria.

Mr. Smith goes home quickly and puts on his best clothes. He goes back to the party. Everyone in the room stands up and looks at him. They give him good food to eat. Mr. Smith takes off (脱下) his coat, and puts it on the food and says, "Eat, coat!" The other people are surprised and asks, "What are you doing? Why do you do that?"Mr. Smith answers, "I am asking my coat to eat food. When I wear old clothes, you don't look at me. You don't ask me to sit down. Now I am wearing these nice clothes. And you give me good food. Now I see, you give the food to my coat, not to me. "

Thanksgiving Day is coming. Ms. Lee gives her students a piece of special homework. She asks them to draw a picture of something they're thankful for.

To celebrate the New Year, people all over the world eat different food.

In Spain (西班牙), people eat twelve grapes at midnight on New Year's Eve—One grape for good luck in each month of the new year. Japanese (日本人) eat noodles on New Year's Eve and on birthdays. They think noodles may bring them good luck and long life(寿命).
The food may be different in each country, but the meaning is the same. People hope the food will, bring them good luck and fun in the new year.
