My hobby is reading. I like reading books, magazines, newspapers, collections of short stories, novels, poems or any kind of reading material that I find interesting.
This hobby got started when I was a little boy. At that time, I always wanted my parents to read fairy tales and other stories to me. Soon they got fed up of having to read to me all the time. So, as soon as 1 could, I learned to read. I started with ABC books. Soon I could read simple fairy tales and other stories. Now I read just about anything that is available （可得到的）.
Reading enables me to learn about many things. I learned about how people lived in the old days of magic and mystery. I learned about the wonders of the world, space travel, human achievements, huge whales, tiny viruses （病毒）and other fascinating things.
The wonderful thing about reading is that I don't have to learn things the hard way. Books have certainly helped me in my daily life. I learn that how to solve the problems in my life. When I first started looking for a pet cat, I wanted an adult cat named Miao Miao. She was a beautiful cat who looked very friendly. But I didn't bring her home in the end -- a family took her before I could. So the pet adoption center suggested that I take a different cat instead -- a baby cat named Xiaohei.
But there is something special about Xiaohei, whose new name is Egon. He cannot see. This means he sometimes needs extra care. By the time the center introduced him to me, he was about 4 or 5 months old. No one else wanted him. I wasn't sure at first. He was so small - it would take him a long time to grow up. He is naughty sometimes, but most of the time he is a good little cat. Best of all, he sleeps right next to me every night. Every morning, I wake up and give him a big hug.
