Last summer I decided to go camping with my friends. On a Saturday morning my three friends and I got on the train to a1. We arrived at 1:00 p. m. and went to a shop to get some food first.
When we got to the camping place in the mountain, we put the tent up2. Peter is good at cooking, so he decided to make our dinner.3we didn't bring any matches(火柴), so Peter had to ask the campers next to us for help.
At night, we made a fire and sat around. We ate delicious food, told stories and sang.4was dark but the campfire, the stars and the moon. In the tent we couldn't see any thing. Luckily, Tom had a flashlight(手电筒), so we used it to 5our sleeping bags.
In the morning we got up early and had a big breakfast. Then we went climbing. We saw some nice birds and took many pictures of them. We found some beautiful flowers, but we didn't 6them.
Not everything went well. It was very 7, and we had to stop to drink water often. And we8our way twice because Terry left the compass(指南针)in the tent. However, it's always fun to spend a weekend with friends, especially(尤其)in this clean and quiet place.

Rows of desks, a teacher standing at the front… It seems that schools always look like this. But what should schools of the future look like to improve the learning environment? Dave Townsend, was once a teacher. He developed(开发)a virtual(虚拟的)classroom while he was teaching. Students could join in and see his classroom.
"One of my students was ill and couldn't come to school for six months, "he says. "It made me come up with an idea to make sure he could still get an education at home. "Dave Townsend set up a camera in his classroom. With the help of a piece of software(软件), the student could see his classmates, his teachers, and take the lessons at home.
Dave Townsend's virtual classroom showed what schools could be like in the future, but that's a long time ago. With the quick development of technology(科技), will schools look different in the future?
Dave Townsend made a prediction: in a school of the future, students won't have to always come to school. They can have their classes on the Internet.
"Build schools half the size that they are now, for the same number of students but half the size, "he suggests. "Have students come into the school three days a week and then the other two days they can study at home. They'll be able to get a teacher when they need one. We won't need such a big building because fewer students will study at school. "
Bob's father works in a restaurant. Last Friday, Bob didn't have to go to school, so he went to work with his father. .
Bob filled a large pot with water. His father washed and cut carrots, potatoes and tomatoes. .
Then someone came to the back door. It was Mr. Hunt, an old man living nearby. He asked Bob's father to give him some bones(骨头). Bob's father agreed and asked him to come later. Mr. Hunt thanked him and left.
Bob's father added all the vegetables and the beef to the water and began to cook them. He put the bones into a white jar(罐子). .
Soon the soup was OK and Bob's father poured it into jars. The jars looked just like the one with the bones. After he put the jars inside the fridge, Bob's father began to make some salad.
At 11:20a. m. , Bob's father finished all his work, and it was time to go home. "Take some soup home for lunch, "said the chef(厨师长). "I can't wait to taste your soup, Dad, "Bob said when they got home. But when Bob looked into the jar, he couldn't believe his eyes. "Dad, "he shouted. "We've got the jar with the bones. ""Oh, the chef must have made a mistake, "said his father. "Well, I really hope Mr. Hunt's dog likes my soup! "
A. His father cut some beef, too. B. They enjoyed the food at last. C. He gave Bob a jar from the fridge. D. He needed some bones to feed his dog. E. They had to get the food prepared before 11:30 a. m. F. Then he put the jar into the fridge(冰箱)to keep the bones fresh. |
In Canada and the United States, people enjoy entertaining(请客)at home. They often invite friends over for a meal, a party, or just for coffee and conversation. Here are the kinds of things people say when they invite someone to their home.
"Would you like to come over for dinner on Saturday night? "
"Hey, we're having a party on Friday. Can you come? "
To reply to an invitation, you can either say "Thank you." and accept, or say you are sorry and give an excuse.
"Thanks, I'd love to. What time would you like me to come?" Or "Oh, sorry, I'm going to a movie. "Sometimes, however, people don't invite you seriously. For example:
"Please come over for a drink sometime."
"Why not get together for a party sometime?"
"Why don't you come over and see us sometime soon?"
They are really just polite ways of ending a conversation. They are not real invitations because they don't mention(提到)a clear time or date. They just show that the person is trying to be friendly. To reply to expressions like these, people just say "Sure, that would be great." or "OK. Yes, thanks. "
So next time when someone asks you to have a get-together, you should be careful to listen, is it a real party or is the person just being friendly?
People in Canada and the United States enjoy entertaining at home. It is a good time for you to have a talk with your friends. But you need to know something when you get a(n). When someone invites you in this way, "Hey, we're having a party on Friday. Can you come? "If you would love to go, you can like this, "Thanks, I'd love to. What time would you like me to come? "But sometimes, people just show they are to you. They don't mean to(打算)invite you over to have a real get-together. So someone invites you like this, "Please come over for a drink sometime. "The person is just polite. So listen and you will know if it is a real party. |
From homes and schools to hospitals and factories, robots are part of our lives. Today people around the world are using many kinds of robots. They do dangerous, hard or boring jobs and make our lives easier. Let's meet some of them.
I am Lovot from Japan. Look at my strong body, round head and big eyes. I look like a cat, a snake and a teddy bear! You can make fun of me and I'll laugh. You can talk to me and I'll move my arms up and down to ask you for a hug(拥抱).
Hey, your hamburger is here! I am Rice, a delivery robot from Hong Kong. I work in hopping centers or offices. I use maps to get around. I can move 4 km per hour. I use elevators(电梯)to go up and down. What do you want? I am on my way to bring it to you Do I look like a dog? I am Spot from the US. I can do many things. I can climb stairs, walk and carry heavy things. With my arms, I can open doors, tidy up rooms and plant flowers in gardens. I work in places that are dangerous for humans. I am also good at answering people's questions, and I am good at playing soccer, dancing and teaching kids.
Will Robots replace(代替)us? Robots make our lives easier and better. But they can also cause trouble. One big problem is that we are losing our jobs to them! Robot salesmen, robot cooks, robot drivers… have you ever seen them? They will replace all of us one day. What do you think? I don't think robots will ever replace humans. They don't know how to solve unexpected(意外的)problems. For example, a robot teacher could give us lessons. But it usually tells what the textbook says. It could not answer our questions very well. |

A father is flying a kite. His little son is him carefully.
After some time the son says, "Dad, the kite can't go any because it's being held down by the string(绳子). "
When he hears this, the father smiles and the string. The kite goes higher and higher, but then falls to the . The child looks at it .
The father sits next to him and says:
"Son, this can be a lesson for you. In life, we might be after some time. We might feel like that our family or friends are keeping down when we could be flying even higher. We want to break free from these strings we believe they're stopping us. But these are the things that keep us stable(稳定的). Sometimes, we might fly too high and come to the ground people to keep us safe. "
"We shouldn't give up culture, family, friends and , as they help keep us stable while we are flying high."
