Here is the charity sale for the poor African children. We will give away the money we raise in the charity sale(义卖). Come and see our things.
Nancy: I have some soft toys to sell. The teddy bear is my thirteen-year-old birthday present. I have had it for one year. It still looks very new. Its original price(原价)is $50. You only need to pay $15 for it now. Other toys are very new but cheap, too.
David: I have an MP3 player. I have had it for three months. It works very well now. It stays with me whenever I feel upset. And I have downloaded some pop songs in it. I hope it can be with you when you are not happy. It cost $220. Now, you can take it with $100.
Henry: I want to sell some of my books. I began to buy fiction when I was thirteen years old. My favorite book is Alice in Wonderland. I believe anyone like me will learn a lot from this book. Each book only costs $10. You can get the second at half price.
Last month I went to Peru with my mom and dad. My mom's company sent her there on business. It was great! We flew into Cusco. One weekend we visited Machu Picchu by car.
What is Machu Picchu? Well, it is the remains of an ancient Inca city. It is on the top of a mountain that overlooks the Urubamba River. It is more than 7,000 feet above sea level!
How did we get up that high? We could have hiked the Inca Trail(印加古道)for four days. Instead we decide to take the train. It runs right along the river. It takes only a few hours. Our guide was a man from the local area. Not only did he provide information about the area, but he worked as our interpreter. Some of the people of Peru speak Quechua, which of course we didn't understand.
As we took the train, our guide pointed out unknown plants that grew in the rain forest. The plants which grew near the floor of the rain forest, were so thick that I could hardly imagine trying to get through it back in 1911. That was when Hiram Bingham, started his expedition(探险). We also learned about the animals. There are some dangerous snakes that live there. One bite can kill a person.
His trip was well worth it, in my opinion. Machu Picchu was so big and beautiful! There were terraces(梯田)cut into the sides of the mountain, and green was everywhere. We saw where the people lived and where they farmed. The trip is great!
a. Arrived in Cusco. b. Got up to Machu Picchu.
c. Learned about animals. d. Got to know some plants.
Eating habits are different in different countries. In the west everyone has their own plate of food. In China, people put all the dishes on the table and they share together. Chinese have a saying, "Obey the customs(习俗)of the place. "
Chinese are very proud of their culture of food. They will try their best to give the guests a taste of many different kinds of dishes, and they must prepare enough food for them. If a Chinese host treats you, you'll eat a lot of food. If they take somebody out for dinner, they usually order one more dish than the number of guests. If it is a business dinner, there will be a larger number of dishes.
The dinner usually starts with some cold dishes. Then, the main courses are hot meat and vegetable dishes. Finally it's soup. Many Chinese eat rice and noodles as staples, but if you like to have your rice together with other dishes, just do it.
When you are eating with a Chinese host, maybe someone is using chopsticks to put food in your bowl or plate. It's polite in China. You should eat whatever it is and say how delicious it is. If you dislike it, you can say a polite "thank you" to the host and leave the food there.
So people often mistake them for each other. According to a new study, mothers today look to their daughters for fashion and beauty ideas. The study questioned 343 mothers and daughters, with an average(平均的)age of 44 for moms and 16 for daughters.
A report from Temple University, Philadelphia also says that many children act older than their years.
They like the same color and style as their daughters. They do so because they want to keep as young as their daughters. So a strange thing happens: the woman may look like a teenager from behind, but she is already middle-aged from the front.
The report shows that if a mom is young at heart and fashion, she is more likely to act as her daughter as a style expert and copy her. So what are the mothers going to wear in the future?
A. Some mothers buy the same clothes as their daughters do. B. Now, more and more mothers wear the same clothes as their daughters. C. This may depend on their daughters. D. And now many more mothers compare beauty with their daughters. E. But they don't listen to the opinion(意见)from their parents in wearing. |
It may be really hard to tell others that you're feeling sad or worried. If you keep these1in your heart and don't talk about them2others, you may even fall ill at last!
3if you talk with someone4and he or she cares a lot about you, like your mom or dad, you may really feel better. It is because you're not alone with your problems or worries. But5you don't want to talk with your parents,6should you do?7is better to find another trusty(可信任的)adult, like a teacher at school. Maybe this person can help you talk with your parents about your8.
Once you know who you can talk to,you should choose a time and a place to.9. If you think it's10for you to say what you think,11it down on a piece of paper. If the person can't understand what you mean right away,12to say it13a different way or give an example. Some kids may feel14about sharing their feelings. But it is important to share feelings15they need help.

You most have been to many places of interest and all kinds of beautiful mountains and rivers. I am also sure that you have many old buildings covered with colorful pictures on the walls. Now imagine that building with an exterior(外观)made completely out of corn and other grains! The building really exists-it is the Corn Palace.
The Corn Palace was built 1892 in Mitchell, South Dakota. It was created to display the products of the harvest of South Dakota's farmers, in murals(壁画)inside the building on the outside walls of the building. The murals are made from of corn and other grains(谷物)and such as wild oats, rye, straw and wheat. The Corn Palace is a great tourist attraction and
place for the community. Many events held here and the most popular is the Corn Palace Stampede Rodeo. But the horses must be watched so that they don't eat the building!
Some English expressions have something to do clothes. Have you noticed them? Let's see some now together!
People wear pants to cover their bodies. somebody is nervous,we can say he has ants in his pants. In every family, one person always takes control. Sometimes a wife tells her husband what to do. Then we say she wears the pants in the family. Pants usually have pockets to hold things. one spends his money quickly, we may say he burns a hole in his pocket. Please don't do like this!
If a person can save his money and doesn't spend too much, he may be rich the future. If a person works hard day and night, he may be successful sooner or later. We should take our hats to them.
