But elephants are in great4. People cut down many trees so elephants are losing their ivory. Today there are only about 3, 000 elephants （over 100, 000 before）. We must save the trees and not buy things5of ivory. Remember that March 13th is Thai Elephant Day.
Colin walks out of the shopping center with his head down. There are many wonderful Mother's Day gifts there, but they are too1. He has only saved four dollars.

Artist's strange 'ears'

It looks like this man is wearing two fins （鳍） on his head. But they are not animal fins. They are made of silicon （硅）.
Manel de Aguas is an artist from Spain. He put a "weather fin" in each side of his head. The first weigh 500 grams. That's as heavy as 10 eggs. There is a microchip （微芯片） in each fin. When the weather changes, the sound inside the microchip will tell him about the temperature, humidity （湿度）, and atmosphere pressure （气压）, according to Oddity Central. Aguas said he wanted to make the fins because of his love of fish.
"The atmosphere sounds inside my head, "Aguas said, "It's like being in one type of medium or another."
When Aguas walks down the street, he often gets strange looks. "I'm used to people looking at me in the street, but the truth is that I don't care about it at all. " he said.
The British are famous as animal lovers, and in a nation of about 60 million people, there are about 27 million pets! The most popular pets are dogs and cats.
Many British people say that the main reason they have a pet is to keep them company（陪伴他们）. According to a recent report, 60% of people who live on their own have a pet as company. A lot of pet owners treat their pet just like one of the family. Many cat owners make holes in their doors so their cats can come and go as they please. Another reason to own a pet is for protection, especially dogs. Most thieves would think twice about breaking into（闯入）a house if they could hear a large dog barking inside. Some people choose their pets because of their beauty. The most beautiful animals can win prizes at pet shows!
In the UK, some pet owners think that nothing is too good for their animal! Some people take their pet to the animal doctor more often than they visit their own doctor. They might even take a day off work to care for a pet when it is sick. Many people talk to their pets, and some talk to them over the telephone. And of course, they mustn't forget to celebrate the animal's birthday!
My four-year-old daughter, Cindy, finds a small freckle （斑点） on her left hand. She doesn't like it and wants to clean it off.
Then I say to her, "Oh dear, that's a beautiful mark （记号）. Don't clean it off.
She takes another look at it and says. "It's not a beautiful mark. I want it off, "she is so sad.
"Each of us has special marks, dear. We can see some of them, but others are invisible. "

What's it like to live in a zoo? Bindi and Robert can't you. The sister and brother live at Australia Zoo. Their grandparents started it in 1970. There are about 1, 200 different k of animals there.
