A lot of phones are lost every day. Losing a phone makes people upset, because they usually keep all their friends' numbers, and perhaps their photos or favorite songs on it.
One day, Jack Gallagher was reading on a chair in a London park. All of a sudden, a phone under the chair started to ring. He picked it up and answered it. The speaker, Louise, explained that this was her phone. She asked worriedly," Where are you? I wonder if you could give back my phone." Jack said." No problem. I'll meet you at Euston Station. "
When Jack met Louise, she told him that it was part of an experiment. She explained that a group of scientists wanted to test people 's honesty(诚实). They left phones in parks and then rang them."
The result showed that 20% of the people who answered the phones refused to return them. However, 80% of people agreed to give them back. Why? The scientists found that two key factors made a difference. Firstly, people were more likely to return the phone if a woman made the phone call. Secondly, people were more likely to return the phone with a photo of a baby on the screen.
So now you know: keep a photo of a baby on your screen and ask your mom to call your number if you lose your phone!
What should parents do to get along with their children? Dr. Lucy Samuel shares some pieces of advice with us.
If you want to show your children you love them, spend time with them Explain to them why you're busy.
If you want your children to talk to you. you shouldn't tell anyone their secrets(秘密).
You must remember being a good listener. Their problems may be different from the ones you had.
Don't argue. —It's part of growing up. But if you argue with them, don't expect things to get better than before.
Sitting down to eat meals together is a great way to stay close. If your children feel comfortable talking to you about everyday things, they may be more open when difficulties come up.
A. Teenagers will argue with you. B. If you can't keep the secrets, why should they tell you anything? C. Share your happiness and sadness with your parents. D. And when you haven't got time, you shouldn't make excuses. E. You can talk about anything you like during meals. F. When children come to you for advice, listen to them carefully. |
If you have kids, you may read them many bedtime stories. But as they get older, they like watching a movie better than hearing stories.
Jim Bronzina saw that happened with his older daughter. So he kept story time going with his younger daughter. Kristen, by turning it into a challenge(挑战). When Kristen went to fourth grade, Jim and Kristen made a decision to make the challenge: Could they read together for 100 days without missing a story time?
Jim and Kristen kept their promise with no problem." l think we should try for1. 000 nights." she told her dad.
For more than 3,200 nights, Jim read to his daughter. As Kristen grew older, the reading material(材料) changed from picture books to Harry Potter to Charles Dickens. Their bedtime reading didn't end until Kristen finally left home to go to college. And now, even though their bedtime reading is over, Jim keeps 700 of his daughter's favorite books with care. He will give them to her one day so she can start another bedtime reading with her own children.
As parents, we usually read bedtime stories to our children when they are young. But when they get , they may lose interest in hearing stories. Jim, a dad of two daughters, to make a challenge with his younger daughter Kristen: They read together for 100 days without missing a story time. They kept their and read for about 3, 200 nights until Kristen went to college. Now, their bedtime reading is over, but Jim keeps Kristen's books . He will pass them to her she can start bedtime reading with her own children. |
Good or Bad? It is good that we can share our daily life on apps like Douyin, but the videos can also cause trouble. Some students spend too much time watching them and not cough time studying. Some videos have terrible content that is not good for teenagers. To deal with these problems. Douyin added a new function(功能) in April. It will lock the app if someone uses the app for over two hours a day. |
Since last year, short videos have gotten millions of views online. Many people create and share short videos on popular video apps like Douyin and Kuaishou. You can even add music and special effects(特效)to your videos. The videos are 15 seconds to a few minutes long. They show people doing activities like cooking, exercising and singing.
Teenagers especially enjoy these videos. More than 50 percent of junior high school students say they enjoy watching these short videos. About 47 percent have posted(发布) their own videos.
The videos let teenagers see funny and exciting things. Many teens like to share the fun things they do with others as well. For example, a 12-year-old user named Xiaoqianyu has posted videos showing her learning jazz dance. This has won her many fans.
