For example, in the USA, people point to their heads when they think someone is clever. However, human beings are not the only ones who use body language. Animals also use body language to tell each other how they feel and what they think.

When a dog is happy, its ears will stand up, and its eyes will be widely open. When it is hungry, it will look straight at you. lf an elephant spreads its ears, it means "Watch out! " to show friendship ,elephants will touch each other with their trunks(象鼻). Dolphins live in groups and like to show each other their feelings. An angry dolphin will sometimes slap its tail on the water. A happy dolphin will play with its friends, making small jumps into the water. Not only humans but also animals can use body language to communicate, but the things they "say" to each other are different.

My mother is an excellent mother who always accompanies me and studies with me from morning to night. When I was one year old, I became deaf and dumb. The reason why these happened is that a fever caused my eardrum(耳膜) to bleed. This was a big blow to me and my family.

We have travelled a lot to treat it, but the doctor's conclusions always disappoint us. Many people advised my mother to send me to the deaf-mute school, but she did not give up. For me, she learnt lip language and then taught me how to speak and read.

My mother insisted on letting me go to normal school, so she made an incomprehensible decision: she resigned and went to school with me. In this way, from primary school to senior high school, my mother and I study together. She is my ear and guide. My teachers and classmates also provided the best conditions for us. After continuous practice, I can be just like a normal person.

Today, I major in electrical engineering in Hebei University of Technology. I am a sensible man. In order to reduce the financial burden of my family, I work part-time and provide express services for my classmates. I hope to repay my parents, teachers and all those who helped us.

"Don't tell anyone. "We hear these words when someone tells a secret to us. But it can be hard to keep a secret. Often, we can't help "spilling the beans", even if we regret it later.

According to Dr. Asim Shah, at Baylor College of Medicine, US, keeping a secret may well "become a burden (负担) ".This is because people often have an obsessive urge(强迫性的冲动) to share it with someone.

An earlier study, led by Anita E. Kelly,a scientist at the University of Notre Dame, US, suggested that keeping a secret could cause stress (压力). People with secrets can suffer from anxiety(焦虑)and body aches, reported the daily Mail.

It's hard to keep secrets. _________________ Shah explained that people often feel that it will help them keep a person as a friend. Another reason is that people will feel guilty(内疚的) without sharing secrets with someone close to them. A sense of distrust(不信任) can develop when people who are close do not share it with each other. "Keeping or sharing secrets often puts people in a position(位置) of either getting or losing the trust of someone. "according to Shah.

He added that talkative(爱说话的) people could let secrets out. But this doesn't mean that it is a good idea only to share secrets with quiet people. A quiet person may be someone who keeps everything inside. To tell such a person a secret may cause them more stress, and make them talk about the secret.

Shah suggested that if you accidentally give up someone's secret, you should tell him about it. Let the person know that their secret isn't so secret any more. She also said that to decide whether to tell someone a secret, you'd better put yourself in their position. Think about how you would feel to be told that you mustn't give the secret away.

So if someone tells you a secret, will it become your burden?

    1. (1) What does the underlined phrase "spilling the beans" probably mean in paragraph 1?
      A . Keeping a secret. B . Worrying about a secret. C . Letting out a secret. D . Thinking about a secret.
    2. (2) Why may keeping a secret "become a burden"?
A . Because people who tell a secret may feel regretful. B . Because people who keep a secret may feel stressed. C . Because people may feel obsessive after letting out the secrets. D . Because people are required to share their secrets with others.
    3. (3) Which sentence may probably be put in _______________?
A . But why do people share them with others? B . Then how can people keep them safer? C . So who can keep all the secrets best? D . And shall we share them with quiet people?
    4. (4) What can be inferred(推断) from the passage?
A . People may feel guilty if they keep secrets for close friends. B . Keeping a secret may lead to distrust between close friends. C . To tell talkative people a secret may cause them more stress. D . It's always a good idea to share secrets with quiet people.
    5. (5) What's the best title of the passage?
