For thousands of years, people have trained and studied homing pigeons(鸽子). These birds choose a homing place by the time they are six weeks old. When released(被放开)from a place that they don't know, they have a special ability to return to their home.
On its journey home, any pigeon can fly over 500 miles in a single day. One pigeon was released from Africa and flew over 7, 000 miles to arrive safely at its home in England. In its journey, which took 55 days, it flew a surprisingly straight way home.
Homing pigeons have served people in different ways. Clever children have been known to train a pigeon to fly between their houses and send messages. Hospitals have used pigeons to take medicine, while workers in the ships have used them to give directions. In World War l, pilots brought these pigeons along as they flew tasks. If their plane could not work, one pilot would release the pigeon with a message stating his place and calling for help. It was believed that these pigeons had saved the lives of many brave pilots. Today, there are over four million trained homing pigeons around the world.
We found the homing pigeons' great ability to navigate, but scientists are still wondering how these birds can return home perfectly. Many scientists have believed that these birds use the Earth's magnetic field (磁场) to navigate. ln support of this, scientists discovered that something on a homing pigeon's mouth has iron particles (铁颗粒) which are lined with the North Pole(北极) that can show the bird directions.

Do you help your parents with housework around the house? Can you cook for your family? According to People's Daily, a study showed that primary and middle school students in China only spend 12 minutes a dayon housework, compared to 72 minutes in the US, 42 minutes in South Korea and 30 minutes in France. In 2020, China gave special attention to labor(劳动) education in primary and secondary schools and colleges. Housework like cooking always ends up at the bottom of many of our to-do lists. Some students even think that they should be taken care of by parents. However, these abilities are important and should be taught as part of labor education. Students can get labor education in different ways, such as doing housework, cleaning in schools, and volunteering in communities." Labor education must be paid more attention to because it can cultivate(培养) students'right view of the world, life and values ,"said a government leader. Through such education, students are expected to learn basic working abilities as well as forming good working habits. Middle school students are required to work more than 3 hours every week. The government also asks high schools to make sure that students have 40 hours of volunteer service during the full three school years. |
