Almost everyone has some kinds of 1: it may be something from collecting stamps to 2 model planes. Some hobbies are very 3, but others don't cost anything at all. Some collections are worth 4 of money, others are valuable only to their owners.

When giving gifts, sometimes color is important. For example, for many Chinese people around the world, red is a lucky color, and people often like to pack gifts in this color. What about western countries? In western countries, the color of packing paper is not really important. But color does matter when giving flowers, especially roses. You should not give red roses to a western person you don't know very well because they are a symbol of love. You could give yellow roses instead as these are a symbol of friendship. You could also send pink roses as gifts to say thank you.
What other things should you remember when giving gifts to someone from a different culture? Well, one thing you should keep in mind is the person's religion. When choosing a gift for a Muslim or Jewish friend, you should never get good food including pork or things made from pigskin. Another thing that you shouldn't get for a Muslim person is alcohol.
Are you the only child in the family? If so, you are the most important in your family. Parents are the closest people to you in the world. But a lot of middle school students have a problem. They feel they're not as close to their parents as before. They even don't think their parents are fair to them.
Some students complain that their parents often say a lot to them, but never listen to them. Some say their parents don't allow them to play computer games when other classmates are doing that. Others say when they're making phone calls to friends, their parents like to ask if they're speaking to a boy or a girl. These make them very unhappy. Some students even decide to leave home because they're afraid to tell their parents when they have done something wrong, especially when they do badly in exams. Then they usually think running away is the only choice But they don't know running away may bring them some more problems.
Problems are parts of life. Here are some suggestions for you to solve your problems.
1)Find a good chance to talk with your parents. Don't be afraid to tell them your feelings.
2)Get help from others like good friends or teachers.
3)Keep a diary to help you understand more about yourself and your feelings.
4)Show your parents you're growing up. Then they'll feel you're no longer a small child.
If you follow the advice, you'll have a happy life and never think of running away. When they are greeting each other, talking about an idea, thinking of finishing a talk, people don't say exactly what they are thinking about. It's an important way that people try to be nice to each other, and it is the closest people to an only child.

No one knows exactly the answers to these questions. But we know that music plays an important part in almost everyone's life. Babies and young children love to hear people singing to them. When they are a little older, they like to sing the songs they have heard. When children go to school, their world of music grows. In the middle grades, students take music lessons. When they reach high school, they become interested in listening to pop music.

Do you have a mobile phone? Do you send text messages to your friends and family?
Text messaging or “texting” is becoming very popular. But, scientists have discovered that texting can give us problems with our hands. Be careful! Too much texting can cause swelling in our thumbs. Our thumbs were not made for pushing small buttons, over and over. Scientists call this problem RSI. We spoke to a doctor called Harriet Wilson, who treats many sick people with RSI. She says we need to see how much time we are spending in typing text messages. If we are spending more than 10-15 minutes at once, we could have problems in the future.
As mobile phones develop, they are getting smaller with buttons closer together. Texting with a smaller phone is worse than using a larger phone with bigger buttons. Using a computer keyboard and playing video games can cause the same problem. So more and more people could find themselves with RSI. Among them, most are university students and teenagers, as they do not know the risks of spending so much time using computer, video games and mobile phones. If we don't do something about this, too many young people could grow up in terrible pain.
