Many people in the world are looking for happiness every day but often fail. Most of them misunderstand that happiness means success and1money. In fact, happiness depends on ourselves. In other words, we2our own happiness. Here is some advice to help you be happier.
The first3of happiness is to enjoy the simple things in life. Too often, we spend so much time worrying about our future—for example, how to go to4or how to get more paid. But we fail to5the present. We should enjoy life's simple pleasures, such as reading a good book, listening to our favorite music, or6time with our close friends. People who have several close friends generally lead happier and healthier lives.
Another secret to live a happy life is to develop some kinds of7and make ourselves active. Activities like dancing or playing sports often help us focus on what we are doing and8about your problems and worries.
Finally, many people find happiness in helping others. If you want to feel happier, do something9for someone. You can help a friend with his or her lessons, go shopping to buy food for your family members, or just help out with the housework by10he house.
People are busy working every day, so they do not have enough time to do exercise. As a result, many people become too fat or too thin. To keep our bodies healthy, we have to do exercises every day:
There are many kinds of exercises. Bending (弯腰) and stretching (伸展) helps us move easily. Before we play ball games or swim, it is better for us to do bending and stretching exercises first. This kind of exercise is something called warm-up exercise.
Running is also a good exercise. If we cannot run fast, we can jog. Jogging means running slowly. Again, before we run or jog, we must do warm—up exercise. Also, we should not run or jog in busy streets. The air there is often dirty. Some people like weight lifting because it can make their bodies strong. Also, we need to do warm—up exercise before weigh lifting.
Imagine that you are going on a trip to Ireland. The first three days of your trip are planned below. Read the schedule and use it to answer the questions below.
Day1 Morning: Your trip begins in the capital city, Dublin. There you will visit Temple Bar, an area famous for its brightly colored buildings, busy stores and restaurants. Stop by the outdoor market for some cheese and homemade bread. Afternoon: Walk to Dublin Castle. Visit the Throne Room to see the golden chair where the kings and queens from England once sat. Evening: Watch an Irish step-dance performance. |
Day 2 Morning: Ride the train to the city of Limerick. Take a tour of King John's Castle, which has built about 800 years ago. Afternoon: Ride a boat along the River Shannon. Evening: Enjoy a nice Irish meal. |
Day3 Morning: Ride the train to the city of Cork. Walk along St. Patrick's Street, known for its many stores. Feel free to buy souvenirs Afternoon: Take a bus to nearby Blarney Castle. Climb the tower to see the famous Blarney Stone, which is thought to give those who kiss it good luck. Then return to Cork. Evening: Watch a Gaelic football match. Rest for the next day's horseback riding lesson. |
A poor boy was selling goods from one door to another to pay for his studies. One day he found that he had almost no money, and he was hungry. So he decided to ask for a meal.
But when a woman opened the door, he only dared to ask for a glass of water. To his surprise, she gave him a large glass of milk. He drank it and then asked how much he should pay her. She said, "You don't have to pay me anything. Mother has taught us never to accept pay for a kindness" He was deeply moved and was determined to help those in need. The boy's name was Howard Kelly.
Many years had passed. One day that woman became seriously ill. The local doctors could not help her. So they sent her to a big city where her rare (罕见的) disease would be studied by specialists (专家). Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for advice. When he entered her room in the hospital, he immediately spotted the woman. Howard Kelly was determined to do his best to help her.
The struggle was long, but together they succeeded in the end. After some time the woman received a bill for her treatment. She was worried that the amount would be so large that it would take the rest of her life to pay for it. However, when she looked at the bill, she found words on the side of the bill. They were, "Paid in full with a glass of milk."
There's much to see under the sea, but you need to remember that light behaves differently in water than in air. The objects appear closer to you than they exactly are. You might find yourself reaching out to touch something and completely missing it.
Objects under water will appear larger than they would on the surface, too. Be careful not to tell any stories about the big fish that got away. That fish might not be so big after al! It's just because sometimes things can seem to be as much as about 33 percent bigger in water!
What's more, in deeper water, colors just don't seem as bright. In fact, it looks as if some colors are missing. Remember the color of an object results from the wavelengths (波长) of light that are reflected (反射) from its surface. And light is taken in as it moves down through the water.
Swimmers wear wet suits to keep warm underwater. Let's take a bright red, yellow, and blue wet suit as an example. These colors are hard to miss on the surface of water. Watch carefully the changes in color as you descend in the water. The red part now looks almost black because the red light wavelengths, the longest among these three colors, are missing. As you go down deeper, the same thing will happen to the yellow part and in the end to the blue part. Even at a place of about 6 to 9 meters underwater, you will look terrible, like a ghost (鬼怪)! And you have to wait for your return to the surface to enjoy the bright colors again.

I always have my own ways to learn English. First, I always read the text before class so that I can know what I must pay muchto in class. To my delight (高兴), when my teacher raises a question, I know how toit more often. And whenever I answer a question, I have a strong sense of achievement. Besides, I always try to takein class.
