Going to school can be a demanding obstacle for many, but some people are more than up for the challenge. For Dylan Kuehl, being a student has been a challenging joy. The 38-year-old has had a passion for studying, and believes that the more he learns, the more he learns to see the world differently. This open-minded approach and enthusiastic mindset is all the more inspiring as Kuehl has Down Syndrome (唐氏综合症). He knows the struggle of breaking new ground from a lifetime of experience of being different. He has sustained his ability to shine as a unique individual by graduating from The Evergreen State College in Washington state. Kuehl is the first person with Down syndrome in the college's 51-year history to earn a four-year degree. Not only that, but this also makes him the first person with Down syndrome in Washington state to achieve this remarkable milestone.
Kuehl's passion for creativity led him to study for a Bachelor of Arts degree. He enjoyed classes inpainting and dance as part of his curriculum (课程), but his primary focus was writing. Out of 900 graduates, he was one of three to be selected to give an address at the graduation ceremony.
"Celebrate your abilities," Kuehl tells his fellow students in his speech. "Live your life with ambition and pride." We can all take a leaf out of this inspiring man's book which is bound, it seems, by enthusiasm, positivity, determination, and a whole lot of motivating hard work.
Aside from graduating college, Kuehl is also an entrepreneur(企业家). He started his own visual and performing arts company called DK Arts in 2005, where he sells his own artwork and glass jewelry. He plays the drums in a band called Living the Dream, advocating for inclusion through his music.
Starship Technologies was founded in Estonia but is now based in San Francisco. The company employs dozens of six-wheeled delivery robots on college campuses. Now, Starship is adding four new schools to its operational field: University of Illinois Chicago, University of Kentucky, University of Nevada, Reno and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
At present, the company operates on 20 college campuses in 15 states with a global fleet that totals 1,000 robots. This expansion will add 85 more robots to that fleet. Starship states that it has done over 5million deliveries worldwide since its founding in 2014. The company has raised $102 million so far, including $17 million in fresh funding announced earlier this year.
Each robot in Starship is electric, has a box that can fit about 20 pounds of goods, and has a number of cameras to recognize obstacles and help guide it to its destination. The robots have a delivery range of three to four miles and can travel at a maximum speed of 4mph;which is obviously slower than a delivery by a human on a bike or in a car. And they can climb the edge of the road but not stairs, which may limit their appeal to customers who live in high-rise buildings.
Delivery via robots is still relatively neoteric in the US. There are a handful of start-ups operating delivery robots of varying sizes—everything from fully-sized minivans like Udelv to robots that are almost similar to Starship's like Amazon and Yandex. Recently, Postmates has also invented a delivery robot called Serve that can carry 50 pounds of goods. There are even some newly-produced robots like Nuro, which can be described as a mini-robotic car. All claim to be automated, but some still require humans to follow their movements.
Demand for delivery robots has risen since the pandemic, though it remains to be seen whether that will hold up as the economy reopens and fewer people rely on takeout food from restaurants.
In March, the water between Canada and Greenland, called Baffin Bay, is covered with sea ice. Scientists in a helicopter fly over, searching for narwhals (独角鲸). The narwhal is one of the most mysterious whale species on the Earth. Each male sports a single tusk (长牙) 6 to 10 feet long. Narwhals are the only whales with tusks. They feed on fish, squid and shrimp. By staying under the ice, they avoid killer whales and other predators.
The helicopter lands on the frozen ocean, and Dr. Jens Koblitz climbs out. He studies animal sounds at the BioAcoustics Network. And he works with Dr. Kristin Laidre, a biologist who studies mammals that live in the Arctic.
Dr. Koblitz lowers a weighted line into the icy water. Attached to the line are 16 underwater microphones strung together, about a yard apart. Each sound from a narwhal hits each microphone at a slightly different time. When Dr. Koblitz records, he captures information about how the whales dive and rise as they hunt for food.
"The windchill is minus 5 to minus 22 degrees Fahrenheit. I have to quickly get everything back inside the helicopter so my equipment isn't destroyed by the cold and ice," he says.
Narwhals use echolocation. The whales buzz, click, and creak. When that sound wave hits an object, like a fish, it bounces back, producing an echo. They use sonar to find holes in the ice and prey in the dark.
But as the average global temperature increases, the Arctic ice is shrinking. The narwhals will face a severe threat as the ice melts. For centuries, sea ice has blocked most ships from the Arctic Ocean. But scientists predict the ocean will be ice-free in a few decades. Then ships will roam the narwhals' habitats. The noise of the ships may drown out the whales' clicks.
Dr. Laidre says, "If we understand what sounds they use, we can better understand how human impacts." That understanding can show humans how to help narwhals survive.
If you travel, you will leave a carbon footprint in your walk. You can't help it. But eco-friendly travel practices can lighten the harm on Mother Earth. Green travel is not a passing trend but a lifestyle choice. .

The greenest rides typically run on electric power. For example, Switzerland is taking the lead with its hybrid buses trains powered by hydroelectricity (水力发电); Japan is running close behind.

As we all know, most of the time, something we consider as a weakness might not be a weakness at all! I didn't know it until I read a story. There is a water carrier who had two large buckets, each 1 on one end of a pole which he carried across his neck. One of the buckets had a crack in it. The other bucket was 2 and always delivered a full portion of water at the 3 of the long walk from the stream to the master's house. But the cracked bucket 4 only half full.

In the West we are familiar with ballets like Swan Lake. But there's another classical dance form with a long history has only recently burst onto the world scene. It is called Chinese classical dance.
Chinese classical dance is incredibly demanding, refined, and expressive dance form. Alongside ballet, it is also one of the most comprehensive dance systems (know)to humans.
People outside China had hardly ever heard Chinese classical dance till recently. One major reason was that when Chinese companies performed abroad, they often (mix) Chinese dance style with Western dance style. So the audience left the theater not sure (exact) what they had just seen.
In 2006, however, a company called Shen Yun Performing Arts (establish) in New York. Its mission was to promote (tradition) culture, and this included (present) Chinese classical dance in its pure form. Not quite a decade later, Chinese classical dance has become much better recognized and is starting influencing Western ballet.
Despite their significant differences, both ballet and Chinese classical dance have the ability (tell) stories vividly and move us through beautiful art.

We had no lessons on last Saturday. Li Hong and I decided to help the farmers pick apples because they was very busy. We climbed up big apple tree. There were a quantity of apple on the tree. She couldn't get the apples so they were too high. I carried the ladder for him. Soon we picked much baskets of apples and the trucks arrived. We all helped load the apples onto the trucks. These trucks would carried the apples to the cities and the farmers could get their money back. We were so exciting. The farmers had a harvest time!
