Have you ever had a troubling problem that has left you wondering where to turn for help?

Eve Hobsbawm is a life adviser. She offers advice to people struggling with all kinds of problems, from relationship difficulties to what to cook for dinner. She does this through a website inviting people to email her with their problems. There's nothing unusual about that, except for the fact that Eve is only eight years old.

This junior trouble-shooter, who also goes by the name "Miss Eve Mouse" lives in London with her parents. Not only is Miss Mouse willing to lend an ear to her clients, she will also offer them a helping hand, for a fee of course. She charges between 10p for advice on little, everyday worries and 1pound for more complicated problems. Her areas of expert knowledge, if not of experience, are problems about love, life and work-life balance.

A problem shared is a problem halved, but Eve can't always helped. A note on the site states that she can't answer questions like "Does space ever end?" and she won't solve schoolwork-related problems, especially not maths.

She explained to the Guardian newspaper that she was inspired to set up the company by her father who runs a tech start-up. Eve said, "As soon as I saw his business and understood the kinds of things business do, I thought that's what I'm going to do."

But since setting up her company in December she has been so overwhelmed with messages that she has had to take a step back. " There has been a lot of sudden interest in my site, which is nice," she says, " but I need to do my homework too, so I won't be solving any more problems for a bit. "

    4. (4) Where is the passage most likely to have been taken from?

  • 14. 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。有两项为多余选项。

Matthew Youlden speaks nine languages fluently and understands more than a dozen more.

When I told Matthew how I've been working hard to only pick up a second language, he had the following advice for me.

Know why you are doing it

This might sound easy, but if you don't have a good reason to learn a language, you are less likely to stay interested over the long-run.  Wanting to get to know a French person in his or her own language is another matter entirely. No matter what your reason is,once you've decided on a language, it is important to carry out.

Matthew learned several languages together with his twin brother Michael. They learned their first language, Greek, when they were only eight years old! Even if you can't get a sister or brother to join you on your language adventure, having any kind of partner will push both of you to always try just a little bit harder and stay with it.

    Have fun with it

Think of some fun ways to practice your new language: make a radio play with a friend, draw a comic strip, write a poem, or simply talk to whomever you can. If you can't find a way to have fun with the new language, chances are that you aren't following step four.

    Act like a child

We learn by making mistakes.  But as adults, mistakes become taboo(禁忌). Think how an adult is more likely to say," I can't", rather than "I haven't learned that yet." (I can't swim, I can't drive, I can't speak Spanish.) When it comes to learning a language, admitting that you don't know everything is the key to growth and freedom.

    A. Find a partner

    B. Leave your comfort place

    C. We work in the same office in Berlin.

    D. As kids, we are expected to make mistakes.

    E. You are learning a language to be able to use it.

    F. Using your new language in any way is a creative act.

    G. Wanting to impress English-speakers with your French is not a very good reason.

With the development of traffic, car accidents happen almost every day. I still remember one thing that happened on the road two years ago. It was a fine day. On the way back home, there were a lot of cars coming and going as usual. Suddenly, I was stopped at a traffic light by some people who asked for help. A woman tried her best to give way to an ambulance(救护车),but drove her car over the stony obstacles(障碍)that separated the bike line from the street. Unluckily, she had her car trapped as a result. She could not move the car in any direction. She felt really nervous and did not know how to deal with it.

Luckily, many kind people offered to help her. Some people tried to lift the car back and some people tried to move the stony obstacles. Even the teenagers put down their schoolbags and joined them. But the obstacles were too heavy and high. They failed. Seeing that they could not do much about it, they called the emergency phone numbers. And finally they had no choice but to walk away. The woman alone in the car tried to call for service.

While watching the other people leave and finding she needed some service, I realized that the woman would be on her own and felt helpless. She watched her car and the stony obstacles hopeless. And at that time, I imagined how painful I would be if I were in that situation. So, I ask her what I would do for her. She appreciated my concern. She said staying with her was fine. She made a call and was told that it would take 45minutes for someone to arrive. With a sense of sadness, she said, "How will I spend the boring 45minutes?" I said to her with smile, "I will stay with you and buy you a cup of tea if you like. "" It's very kind of you to stay with me," she smiled at last.
