Mr. White is sixty years old. He always talks about how fast things have changed, and he often says that life in the past was better than it is these days.
Now cities are full of cars. Some families even have two or more cars, so parking is becoming a big problem. The traffic in some cities is getting worse and worse, too. Car drivers drive so fast that there are more traffic accidents.
More and more people are always looking at their mobile phones with their heads down. Mr. White often sees people in the restaurant eating face to face while looking at their own mobile phones. He thinks it is strange that they don't talk to the ones who sit opposite to them during the meal. Some of them even have fun chatting (闲聊) with others on the phone.
Most families own computers now. A study found that children use the Internet more and more. The number of children using the Internet has grown by three times in the past three years. Mr. White's grandson is a middle school student. He often stays up late playing computer games on the Internet. He falls asleep in the early hours of the morning and spend less time doing homework.
Mr White thinks that life was simple and happy, but now it has changed a lot.

Millie told everybody about her new learning and really wanted to test her skills. She shouted. Then she took a deep breath and remembered. "A for airways. " She checked his mouth. It was clear. But Bobby was very different from the dummy. As she was about to do step B, she thought, "Oh, no. His breath smells. " But she remembered how important it was. She pinched (捏住) his nose and was about to give the mouth-to-mouth rescue breathing when Bobby began laughing and so did Stacy. Millie realized it was all a joke. She hit Bobbie on the arm. She was angry, but then thought and said to her friends, "Well, at least I'd got to practice, and maybe I'd rather not have to do it in real life, anyway!"
Do you think doing chores is an interesting thing? As we all know, doing chores helps to improve children's living skills and teaches them how to look after themselves.
What kinds of chores do you usually do around the house? All of these are "indoor chores". But in many places—especially in the countryside in the US, kids have different "outdoor chores" during different seasons.
In the fall, the most common outdoor chore is cleaning leaves. As trees lose their leaves in fall, the leaves will pile up (堆积) in people's yards. It is up to each family to clean up the leaves and put them in big trash bags.
After a heavy snowfall in winter, children also play an important role in doing outdoor chores. They help shovel (铲) snow in their front yard.
Spring and summer bring lots of rain and sun which make the grass in people's yards grow tall. It is common for kids to mow (割草) their yards to keep them fresh and tidy.
Doing all of these chores might sound like a lot of work. People who don't have children might even pay neighborhood kids to take care of chores for them. It's a good way to make some money if you aren't old enough to have a real job yet.
